Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
August 29, 2019
Dear Parents,
"Let the Children Come to Me." This is how Jesus felt and it also conveys how the faculty, staff, and administration feel this week. What a wonderful first week of school! The building is a much brighter place when it is filled with the laughter and smiles of your children. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of our new school students and their families. We are so happy that you are here and a part of our family! The Lord has blessed us!!
There have been important changes made to the Parent-Student Handbook, in particular in regards to cell phone policy, Apple watches, Safe Arrival, etc. Please read through the handbook and familiarize yourself and your children with these changes before signing and returning the agreement form. In addition, it is important that tuition payments are made in a timely manner as per the Tuition Agreement Form. This will help to avoid any fees or withholding of report cards, field trips, etc. These forms are contained in a yellow envelope coming home with your children today.
In the words of St. Benedict, "Whenever you begin any good work, you should first of all make a most pressing appeal to Christ our Lord to bring it to perfection." A successful school year cannot happen based on planning, organization, and curriculum alone. With the grace of God and an appeal to Him to bless our efforts, we can paint a masterpiece this year!
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God’s Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley

Arrival & Dismissal (K through 8)
For the safety and security of all of our students, as well as staff, please adhere to the following directives:
- In the AM, all car rider vehicles enter through Knowles Avenue only and exit out 2nd Street Pike.
- Children arriving at school will be greeted by OLGC staff & directed to enter the building through the Gym doors. Students then report directly to their classrooms. This process is the same for those students who are car riders as well. All parents in Grades K-8 dropping students off in the morning (NO earlier than 7:45 AM) should enter the car line via Knowles Ave. No student should be dropped off on the Church side of the parking lot.
- Buses dismiss from OLGC between 3:00 PM & 3:10 PM. Car Pick up is at 2:55 PM - 3:10 PM at the Gym Doors. Cars must exit the parking lot via Knowles Avenue only. Cars must wait in line and file out one row at a time. Cutting through the parking lot puts parents, students, and staff at risk.
Change in Safe Arrival/ Absentee Call In Procedure - (Grades K - 8)
The Safe Arrival phone extension (Ext. 286) has been disconnected. You are no longer required to "phone in " your lateness/absentee. Please title the email as "Absent and the Student's Name." The teacher will compare these emails to the attendance sheet. You will only receive a safe arrival phone call if the teacher did not receive this email notification. If you are aware of your child's whereabouts you do not have to respond to the call.
This new process will also allow you to effectively communicate any homework requests or other pertinent instructions regarding the absence.
**This procedure does not apply to our Pre-K students **
OLGC Clothing Drive
This year's OLGC Clothing Drive is part of a service project for the students in grades 6, 7 and 8. This can be counted toward their community service hours. Please click the available slots on our Sign-Up Genius in order to sign-up. Students and parents are needed to help collect clothing after masses and store them in a trailer that will be parked in the church parking lot. Also, volunteers are needed to help load the truck when it comes to pick up the donated items. Anyone can donate items to this clothing drive! Thank you in advance for your support!
This event is being sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society and ALL 6, 7 and 8th grade students are encouraged to help. All proceeds will be donated to a charity which is to be determined.
