Math, Science, and Social Studies
Math-This week we will continue where we left off before winter break with solving long division problems. We will continue working on the partial quotient strategy as well as the area model. We will have a division assessment on Wednesday using the partial quotient strategy.
In fluency, we will be working on the 12 facts this week. Your child will have fact cards in their zipper pouch this week they can use to study at home. Please make sure your child continues to study all the fact cards we have cut out this year. We will be having cumulative assessments on all facts after we complete the 12 facts. We will have an accuracy check this Friday on the 12 facts!
*A fun website your child can use at home to help prepare for the upcoming cumulative test is www.mulitplication.com. Students use this site multiple times throughout the week to work on our current fact family. This site has tons of fun games that the students enjoy.
Social Studies-This week we will be studying the 3 branches of government. We will be using our new classroom set of Chrome books to do an internet search using Ben's Guide.gov to answer facts about each branch. We will also take 3 quizizz.com quizzes over each branch. We are excited about using technology to complete this unit.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Reading--We will begin a new unit reading like historians this week. We will focus specifically on Lewis & Clark's expedition and Sacajawea. This week, students will be using Chromebooks to research the Louisiana Purchase and the preparations made for the journey. We will also be responding to our reading in our "leather" travel journals we've created. In addition to our unit, students will have time for independent reading and fluency checks this week.
Writing--We will begin this week working on a 2016 New Year Writing booklet. We will be reflecting on the past and setting goals for the new year. We will begin researching historical figures in order to write mini-biographies as well.
