ELAR News
In writing, we are approximately halfway through our unit on poetry. This week we have read and analyzed Abuelito Who by Sandra Cisneros and students have begun working on their own poems, emulating Cisneros', about a person who has had an impact on their lives. This will be due toward the end of next week. At the end of next week, the 12th or 13th, we will begin working on our career research project. We encourage you to begin brainstorming with your child about what career they might be interested in researching.
In both Academic and Honors Reading, we have finished up studying the Notice & Note signposts, and we are ready to begin our class novels the week of the 16th. We will frontload the books with an introduction to poetry and reading, "Paul Revere's Ride", and then discuss the features of historical fiction. Academic class are welcome to purchase their own copies of My Brother Sam is Dead, but we will have a class set. Honors, we will be annotating directly in the book, so please purchase a personal copy of Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson by October 16th. Remember students are required to read their independent reading books for 20-30 minutes per night.
