Term 4 - Issue 17 18th November 2021

Big picture

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

What a fantastic end to last Friday with the annual P&F Colour-A-Thon! Seeing the children enjoying the colour explosion and run around amidst the water on a hot afternoon was a great way to end the week. The number of parent volunteers and spectators was a credit to the hard work of the P&F in coordinating the event.

The P&F monitored money raised by each class for the Colour-A-Thon and I am pleased to announce that the class with the most money raised was Kindy W!!!! For their efforts, the P&F will supply a special lunch for the KW class later this term. Many thanks from our children, staff and parents for the work the P&F does to create such a great community event. No doubt there were colours for days for parents doing the clothes washing!

Tomorrow, we will welcome a number of dignitaries and VIP guests for the official opening of the Stage 7 Building Project, which included the renovation of the administration building. We will also be honouring our foundation Principal, Mrs Anne Nolan, through the renaming of the library. Several State and Federal Ministers will be in attendance to acknowledge their contribution through the Low Interest Loan Scheme and also Federal Government Building Grant. Parents are encouraged to attend the liturgy which begins at 9am and concludes by 9:45am.

Please note: children are to wear FULL SUMMER UNIFORM on Friday (NOT Faction Shirts).

We are excited to announce that due to the overwhelming positive response, we are looking likely to run an instrumental program at SFOA in 2022!! To support our community, we will be offering 2 Instrumental Program Scholarships. One provided by Musicorp (Polygon Group), and the other by SFOA. The scholarship will cover tuition and instrument hire costs for a period of 12 months. Should you wish to apply for a scholarship, please complete the application link:

The successful applicants will be notified and announced in the newsletter in Week 8 of this term.

A reminder that our Semester Two academic reports will once again be released via Seqta Engage at the conclusion of the school year. Please ensure you have your username and password and can access the SEQTA ENGAGE app. If you have any difficulties, feel free to email

Our 2022 Student Leaders will be announced next Friday at the Year 6 assembly. All current Year 5 children nominated themselves for one of the following leadership groups:

  • Sustainability
  • The Arts
  • Christian Service
  • Faction Captains
  • Techsperts
  • Pastoral Care

Each group will have various responsibilities around our community. Over the past 18 months, our leadership groups have implemented the school song (The Arts), a recycling program (Sustainability), Faction Feast Days (Captains and Christian Service), Coding Club (Techsperts) and Student Code of Conduct and Playground buddies (Pastoral Care). The badges for the leadership groups will be blessed and distributed at the first whole school mass of 2022.

This year, our Christmas Concert will be moving back into the hall. To help with viewing, we will have a video camera streaming the event to outside screens for parents who struggle to find a seat. The SFOA Christmas Concert is one of the year's biggest events and our children are busy preparing their songs to perform. We have organised The Pitch Inn Food truck to be available from 5pm to provide hot chips and coffee for the evening. Parents are welcome to arrive early and bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a feed and non-alcoholic beverage before the concert begins.

Christmas Concert Wed 1st Dec

  • 5pm - The Pitch Inn Food Truck (hot chips and coffees - picnic rugs welcome)
  • 6pm - Concert begins in the hall
  • 7:15pm Concert concludes

We are looking forward to closing out the school year with a bang!

Along with the Christmas Concert, there are a number of events and celebrations taking place throughout the final three weeks of this term as we begin the downhill run to another school year. This will culminate in our Graduation and Thanksgiving Mass on Wednesday 8th December. All parents are invited to attend our mass and farewell our graduating Year 6 children.

Congratulations to the Aussie Cricket Team as T20 World Cup Champions! Not too many (including myself) gave them a chance at the beginning of the tournament, so it was nice to see them bring home the one trophy missing from the cabinet. Now to sort out the English in the upcoming Ashes.

We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible tomorrow for our Stage 7 opening. Have a great fortnight ahead.

Best wishes

Jason Baker

Christmas Hamper Appeal

Our annual Christmas Hamper Appeal has begun and will end on Friday 3 December. In previous years the SFoA community has been generous in its support of local families by supplying the necessary items to ensure all families can experience the joy of a festive and nutritious Christmas lunch. Please check SEESAW or the attachment below to check suggested items for the hampers. Please make sure the items donated are still within the useby date. The hampers are distributed by St Vincent de Paul to help local families in need celebrate Christmas.

Feast of Christ the King

This Sunday (22nd November) the Church celebrates the Feast of Christ the King, also called the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Since our Church year revolves around the life of Jesus Christ, it is fitting that the church uses its last Sunday in hailing our Lord and praising Him as King of all creation. This special feast day marks the end of the liturgical year, with a new Church year beginning on the first Sunday in Advent on the weekend of Sunday 28th November.

We live in a society where kings and queens are better known through storybooks and movies on Netflix or Disney+ or in the news, so for many children it is challenging for them to understand the concept of Jesus as King. He did not live in a castle or have unbelievable wealth. it is important that we help children understand what the title “Christ the king” means. The title makes important connections to the Old Testament; and also directs our attention to Christ’s triumph on the cross—and ultimately, at the end of time. Christ is “king” in ways very different than ordinary human powerbrokers, and these differences can teach us all something important about the Christian attitude toward leadership and power. Jesus is the king of heaven, whose crown of glory was made of thorns, who rode in triumph on a donkey rather than on a majestic horse, and whose life was humility and service rather than power and riches.

May God continue to bless us, each and every day!

Miss Dee Campbell

As behalf of our Colour-A-Thon by the P&F, I'd like to congratulate Lia Murphy from KW for raising the most money!!!! Lia raised a whopping $320 for the Colour-A-Thon. The P&F have organised a prize for Lia to enjoy over the upcoming Christmas holidays. Congratulations to Lia and her family for their efforts!

Running Club

For the past few years Duncan Wild has being coordinating the running club before school every week. Unfortunately Duncan will be looking to hand over this job in 2022 as his youngest child is graduating from SFoA. It would be great to continue the running club into 2022 therefore we are looking for someone or a group of people to take this on. The day of training is completely flexible and we would be happy to work around availability, if you are interested please let myself or the office know before the end of the term.

A huge thank you to Duncan for all his hard work, early mornings and time spent over the years, it wouldn’t have been a great success without you.
