What A Fun Week We've Had!

This week has been full of exciting things!

It was Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Week!

Our school participated in a Penny War contest to raise money for a library make-over. What we thought would raise a few hundred dollars as a school, turned out to be an amazing amount of generosity from our students and their families....AND to top it all off, OUR CLASS WAS THE TOP FUNDRAISER! WAY TO GO 4th Graders! I was so touched by the donations that the students brought in of their own allowance money. THANKS SO MUCH PARENTS/STUDENTS!

Important Events:

  • LV Music Demonstration Day March 11th @ 1:30 p.m.
  • FG CARNIVAL March 13th! Order your tickets ahead of time!

Here's What's Happening In Room 1:

Math-4th graders are working on finding equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions. Please have your child use the following sites to continue to boost their knowledge of these skills:

Science-Today we took our motion assessment and competed in our final design challenge

This was really fun! The students learned about the importance of testing out their designs and following directions for specific tasks. This was an interesting unit to watch the students learn from their failures and then THRIVE when they were successful! SO fun!

Next week: We're starting to learn about astronomy!

Writing- Biographies are due next week Monday, and then we'll be editing/revising one last time together with our writing partners to make sure everything is flowing nicely with the appropriate transitions. After this is complete, we'll be taking the most important parts and turning them into our speeches that will be memorized for the wax museum.

What your child is responsible for doing:

  • Start thinking about how he/she will get into character for their wax museum (call friends/family for props/outfit ideas/supplies!
  • Continue working on backdrops!

ELA- This week we talked about Idioms/similes/metaphors and theme! We've been extremely busy! Your child should be able to identify what each of these are and provide a solid example of each!

  • Here's a link to THEME review for your child to watch this weekend (It's in the My Homework app as well!) (CLICK HERE)

***Spring MAP testing is JUST around the corner! Next week we're going to be reviewing your child's GOAL RIT score and review the progress he/she has made between the fall/winter tests. Please encourage your child to visit my weebly site and click on the MAP practice links to continue to practice for this test!
