April 18, 2020 - No.31 (Distance Learning Special Edition 4)
DISTANCE LEARNING WILL CONTINUE THROUGH APRIL 30th
A message to families:
We are all doing our best during this difficult time to provide stability, consistency, and an appropriate level of schooling while students take part in Distance Learning.
We are expected, by our RI Dept. of Education, to provide opportunities for learning each day.
Attendance is being recorded daily, and the Dept. of Education is keeping track of our numbers.
If your child is unable to do schoolwork on a particular day due to illness, please use this form to mark them absent.
Yesterday, the Commissioner of Education released guidance to the schools about the length of the school day for Elementary Students K-5. She is recommending a 4-6 hour day that closely resembles a 'regular school day'. We feel confident that we have been providing this type of learning opportunity for your children over the past 4 weeks.
Regular subjects, which includes time spent with teachers in a Google Meet or Zoom mtg. count towards these hours. Independent work, long term projects, and time spent online using such programs as IXL, Think Central, STEM SCOPES, and many others, count toward those learning hours. To that end, we will continue to provide a wide range of educational digital and video conference options for your children. Our goal is to have an adult from Tiogue connect with your child each day!
We also understand that there is a limit to what children can do in their homes without constant contact with their teacher(s). We ask that everyone makes their best effort to make things manageable. We have amended plans, created varied opportunities, and continue to revise how we approach this new way of learning. We pledge to create more fun opportunities such as our past few spirit weeks and video messages sent out to all of you. We are exploring new and innovative ways of communicating and connecting. We want you to know that we miss seeing all of you in person, but will be there remotely until things go back to the way it used to be.
We are all in this together.
Thank you,
Dom

Kindergarten Registration Information for 2020-21 - A new process, updated for COVID-19
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION 2020-21
We will be moving to a full online registration process going forward. Parents that are
registering for the 19-20 year will need to choose that when they are registering for the current
year. The appointment process will change due to the current COVID-19 mandates to a phone
interview.
Once you complete the registration process one of our registrars will contact you to
set up a phone interview. If you are unable to upload the documents required to register your
student, there will be a drop box at the Coventry Public School Administration building where
you can drop off copies of the required documents or you can email them to
Reggateway@coventryschools.net.
The only people who should be using the online registration program are families that are new
to Coventry and registering a student for the first time and the families registering for
Kindergarten for the 20-21 school year.
At a later time there will be a Back to School process that will open up for parents of students
that are currently enrolled in Coventry Public Schools. That includes anyone that is currently
attending Little Oakers Preschool. This will be a way to update any information that may have
changed. If your address has changed then we will have to schedule an appointment to supply
us with proof of residency.
