James Watt was the worlds first engineer. His invention of the steam engine changed the world more than the printing press. He perfected his steam engine in 1775. It was originally built for coal mines.

James Watts steam engine powered factories and set off a factory building boom. His invention also created a new way of transportation which was steamship. This created a railroad building boom.
