High School Highlights
Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
September 18, 2020
Happy Homecoming! While this year looked a little different than in the past, we are glad we were still able to honor our seniors and crown a Homecoming king and queen for the Class of 2021. Our seniors were able to participate in a pep-rally this morning in our stadium and our students had fun dressing up for different themes this week. We wish our BWHS football team, cheerleaders and band good luck this evening!
BWHS picture day is on the horizon. Please mark Friday, October 2 on your calendar. You should receive an email from HR Imaging with more information. On Tuesday, October 6, we are asking all seniors to dress-up for their senior yearbook portrait, taken in the auditorium.
Finally, a reminder that we do not have school on Monday, September 21 for staff professional development. Please enjoy your long weekend.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
A Few Reminders from our Front Office
Please remember, if your student is going to be absent, running late, or needs to leave early please call the attendance line ahead of time and leave a message at 740-965-7776.
Additionally, to minimize traffic in the main office, please do not come in to get your student unless otherwise instructed. We are asking that parents/guardians call or provide a note ahead of time giving the student permission to sign themselves out and meet you outside in the loop. No student may leave early unless a parent/guardian has given permission. Even if your student is 18, they must have prior approval from a parent or guardian.
Finally, if parents need to drop off any items, please leave them on the table just inside the first secure door of our main entrance. There are post-it notes and pens available for you to label items. Please text your student to let them know their items are there. Students will be able to pick up their items in between classes. We will not be calling students out of class for dropped off items unless it is an urgent matter.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Senior Credit Checks and Naviance Training:
Senior Naviance training and credit checks happened this week with all seniors during their English classes. If your child is not in an English class this semester and was unable to join a session, please have them email their school counselor. Additionally, a session for off-campus students will be offered on Wednesday at 1:00pm via Google Meet. An email invitation will be sent to their email before Wednesday. Students will need to complete the credit check process and learn Naviance in order to send transcripts and letters of recommendation to colleges.
College Application Week:
Seniors may join their school counselor during the week of October 19, for a one-on-one appointment for assistance with their college applications. These 15 minute appointments should be scheduled during a student's lunch or study hall if possible. To make an appointment, students should scan their counselor's QR code, hung throughout the high school, and choose an appointment during the week of October 19.
