KB Classroom Update 18

Parent Update

Happy May everyone! After coming back from spring break, we went on so many exciting adventures. To list a few: we went on our second field trip to Queens Farm, celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week (thank you for all the cards and yummy treats), created love packets for Mother's Day, celebrated many birthday parties for our May friends, had an author visit from Stephen Savage, attended our fourth Town Hall Meeting, and last but definitely not least, traveled to New Delhi, India! WOW, no wonder our days are flying by!

As part of our trip to New Delhi, India, we spent time learning about Mahatma Gandhi. We learned about his Salt March that helped lead the people of India to freedom of oppression by the British. Our school shirts this year signify the importance of all giving your full effort in all that you do. Full Effort = Full Victory!

May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.

BPCS Learner Profile: Inquirer

Roan, Sharper

Inquirer: "We ask questions."

  • I am curious and an explorer.
  • I ask questions to better understand my surroundings.
  • I independently use my research and evaluating skills to find answers.
  • I have a love of learning that I share with others.

Over the past month of April, these KB students have exemplified what it means to be a principled student at Brooklyn Prospect. Other students gave examples of principled moments such as:

  • Roan - "Sharper because he’s always curious about stuff that he doesn’t know."
  • Ruby - "I think Roan is an inquirer because he asks a lot of questions and he’s pretty curious."

Specials in Kindergarten B!

P.E. with Coach M&M

WOW! We have been doing so much in Physical Education I do not know where to begin! In preparation for our land in Rio for the summer Olympics, we have been doing Olympic inspired games and activities to get ourselves ready for our very own BPCS games at Brooklyn Bridge Park in June! In between Olympic training we learned how to play Cricket as we traveled to India. Check out some of our Olympians and cricket players in action below!

Science with Ms. Rosabal

Our scientists have enjoyed exploring and rotating between different "Science Centers" to get various experiences dealing with the life cycle process. Take a look at the photos below!

Art with Ms. Walsh | Greetings from New Delhi!

CONGRATULATIONS to all BPCS artists who helped create our New Delhi Installation.

Kinder Artists made all of the marigolds for the Flower Market. Grade One Artists designed and built the Palace. And Second Grade Artists researched and created all the beautiful Rangolis on display (on the 8th floor)!! Many thanks, artists, for all of your hard work!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of the parents who helped us get to INDIA!! We could not have made this trip without you! Your help and support is extraordinary! NAMASTE!

FYI : The Studio Lab no longer needs "colorful plastic bottle caps!" We have tons and the year end is quickly approaching!! THANK YOU! : )

New Delhi, India 2016

  • Our school is focusing on a school-wide goal of reaching a million math problems. To engage the students, we call this Math Olympics where each math problem they solve goes towards flying an imaginary plane along an international route that will eventually get us to Rio de Janeiro, the host city for the summer Olympics. Every student at BPCS should solve at least 29 math problems a day (outside of school) in order to fuel this trip.
  • Families are invited to our Spring Curriculum Share on June 27th from 9:15-11:15am. Students will share what they have been working on through our third Inquiry unit on "Growth."

  • In hopes of having our students be good citizens not only in the classroom but also outside of the classroom, we are going to begin: 1) incorporating situations into our daily role playing of different scenarios and also 2) give shout-outs at the end of the day during closing circle. Please email us different scenarios you want us to reenact, as well as examples of praise-worthy shout-outs...small or big!
