Message from the Superintendent

August 5, 2022

Dear SCPS Families,

This school year has added significance as it marks our 170th anniversary as a school division. We are proud of our long history of providing outstanding education to our local students. We continue to be committed to providing high-quality education and focusing on academic rigor and excellence.

This past week we welcomed our teachers back and they have been enthusiastically preparing their classrooms. As a reminder, the first day of school is Wednesday, August 10, 2022. We are excited to share that this school year our School Board added 60 new positions to help support student needs. It is important to note that the number of enrolled students has increased as well as many of our students returned to in-person learning. With that in mind, you may see class sizes higher than in past years.

We continue to work hard to fill remaining vacancies and to ensure that we will have a licensed educator in every classroom. Additionally, we have plans in place to be ready for the first day of school to make sure it is an engaging experience for all students. We look forward to seeing you at the Open House on Monday, August 8, 2022. Please take this opportunity to visit with your school principal if you have any questions.

The start of a new school year is filled with excitement and potential, and we can’t wait to see what our students achieve in the months ahead. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can foster a fun and positive learning environment for our students.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kelly S. Guempel
Interim Superintendent
