Principal's Message
ELK Family,
EXEMPTION TIME IS HERE!
Students may pick up exemption forms from their House Office beginning Wednesday, December 13. Students may turn in forms to the House Office beginning Thursday, December 14 and until 8:45 am on Monday, December 18. Each grade level will have a different color form that has the maximum amount of exemptions possible for each grade level: 9th = 1; 10th = 2; 11th = 3; 12th = 4.
Guidelines are listed at the top of the student forms. Reminder: students must have an 80 or above for the semester average and no more than 2 absences during the fall semester. Teachers will check all guidelines before signing that a student has met criteria for an exemption in his/her class.
All Excused (E) & Unexcused (U) absences count. (D12=UIL, T=Tardy, M33= College Visit, M20= Religious D10=Field Trip do not count against their exemptions)
If a student has been in ISS, Suspended, or DAEP (RightTurn), even 1 day, they are not eligible for exemptions (Those are identified at “I”, “S”, “Y”, and “R”).
Students are required to attend classes in which they are exempt on examination days. An exemption is an exam exemption and not an attendance exemption. If a student is absent on exam day, that absence does count against exemptions.
Once forms are turned in there will be no changes, except in the event of a loss of exemption due to absences, grades, ISS, etc.
Choice of exemptions MUST be complete at the time form is turned in.
There MUST be a parent signature on the form regardless of the student’s age.
Forms must be turned in by Monday, December 18 @ 8:45 am and complete, including all signatures.
Once forms are received in the House Office, the names of the students approved for exemptions will be entered into a Google Spreadsheet and shared, with teachers, via email.

Attention Freshman Parents
Freshman Parents
It is that time of the year to review (or create) your student's four-year graduation plan. Your student created a plan with their 8th grade counselor last year. We want to revisit that plan with you and your student to make sure everything is still okay. Please give your student’s house office a call to schedule a meeting with the counselor. The meeting should take about 30 minutes. We have a variety of times available. Call soon to schedule yours. Meetings begins Monday, November 6th.

Do you want to win a CAR?
Students, how would you like to drive a new Nissan Sentra? You could be the lucky winner of a new car if you participate in the Burleson High School, STRIVE-TO-DRIVE program. Here’s how:
- Students must be enrolled in the Burleson ISD for the entire 6 week grading period.
- Students may earn 1 ticket per 6 weeks for perfect attendance.
- Students may earn 4 BONUS tickets per semester for perfect attendance (Fall & Spring).
- Students may earn 10 BONUS tickets for the year for perfect attendance.
- Students may earn a maximum of 24 tickets per school year.
A Nissan Sentra will be awarded in May, at halftime, of the BHS Powder Puff football game.
**The district will utilize state guidelines for reporting average daily attendance to determine perfect attendance contest eligibility.**
**Students will not be notified about the number of tickets they have been awarded. If a student has questions, he/she should go to their House Office.**
