Back to School Night
Thanks for coming to our Back to School Night yesterday. Our teachers enjoyed sharing and getting to know you. Here is the presentation delivered in the auditorium for your reference.
School Closed-Labor Day, Mon. Sept 3rd
We hope all of you enjoy a long, safe, and fun weekend. We will see you on Tuesday, September 4th!
Coffee with the Head of School-Tue. Sept 4th 8:30 - 9:30 am
Please join us at an informal gathering over coffee with our Head of School, Jacques Weber, on Tuesday morning from 8:30 - 9:30 in the foyer. This is a chance to mingle, get to know each other, and ask any questions you may have about the school or plans for the 2018-2019 school year.
Afterschool Activities begin next week
We look forward to all the engaging afterschool classes which start next week on Tuesday, September 4th. Check with Jhino if you have any questions about registration changes. You may refer to the schedule here for a reminder of class times. September 14th is the last day to make class changes and charges will be automatically billed that week to your FACTS account.
Parent Ambassador Info Session-Fri. Sept.7th 9:00 - 10:00 am
Please check out the event link below about our upcoming info session next Friday. We will have coffee and a light breakfast as we discuss our parent ambassador program with you. Thank you in advance for sending your rsvp below if you are able to attend.
Family Handbook Agreements
Please review the updated 2018-2019 Family Handbook found here. If you have not already done so, we need each family to print out the agreement form for each student and return it signed and dated to reception. Extra forms are available at reception. Thank you.
Fall Break Camp-Registration opens next week
During our Fall break from October 8th through the 12th, students may register for a week of learning and fun at our Dia de los Muertos camp! Be on the lookout for more details and registration information in next week's newsletter. Camp hours will be from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Complimentary early drop-off is available beginning at 7:30 am and optional afterschool care is still available until 6:00 pm.
Meaningful learning for multicultural environments podcast
Check out the link at the bottom of the newsletter for an interesting podcast from our partners at Think Bilingual Austin. Angela Pack-Zia interviews Katie McKay and discusses how parents, teachers, and partners can support a diverse community of sharing to enrich student learning.
Campus Safety Reminders
Please help us all by being mindful of campus rules, speed, and traffic flow. Students should remain within a safe proximity of parents when exiting vehicles and crossing the parking lot during busy arrival and departure times. Please remind students the mailbox is not for climbing for their own safety. And thank you for keeping an eye on students once checked out/picked up in the afternoons. Families are welcome and encouraged to remain and socialize while children play and thank you in advance for remaining watchful and attentive.
Teacher Spotlight-Ms. Gina
We want to take some time to occasionally spotlight some of our amazing faculty and staff. Ms. Gina Pieriboni, originally from Venezuela, joins our team as the CE2 through CM2 Spanish teacher; she also teaches Spanish Language & Literature in Middle School. Gina most recently taught for 17 years at the Escuela Bella Vista in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She has extensive experience working with students at all levels, those with different learning needs, and has spent many years working on curriculum development. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Modern Languages and a Master of Education degree. In addition to Spanish, Gina also speaks English, Italian, and French fluently.
When asked what her favorite thing about teaching is, Ms. Gina replied "The ability to leave seeds of knowledge and sparks of curiosity in her students." She shared that her favorite thing about AIS so far "is without a doubt - the people. I already feel so comfortable and secure. You are all here to support me and I love that." Please join us in welcoming the ever so lovely, Ms. Gina, to the AIS team.
