A Note from the DHS Counseling Department
The Counseling Department is working with students this month on promoting college and career readiness. Every Wednesday students and staff are encouraged to wear either college gear or career inspired workwear. There are also a few very important things to note for the month:
The FAFSA opened up October 1st and is a state of Illinois graduation requirement for the class of 2023. Please go to studentaid.gov which is the correct, secure site. If you are asked to pay to file the FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA), then you are not at the correct site. You will need to create an account and use tax information from 2021 to complete it. If you know you/your student will be going into the military (and won't be taking any college classes), the trades, or plan to work full time then feel free and fill out the FAFSA non-participation form and turn this into your counselor as soon as possible.
Seniors were invited to attend a Common App workshop in late September. As the early deadlines approach for many college applications, if students would like to reference the Common Application Walkthrough this may answer some of their lingering questions. Counselors also welcome students to come in to talk through anything they might need to in order to support them during application season.
There are also many links on the Counseling Website for students and parents to check out regarding the application process: College and Career Links
Thank you and have a great weekend!

Dunlap Parents' Association Non-Event Fundraiser
Parents of Dunlap High School Students,
Our DHS Parents' Association provides volunteer services and financial support to the students and staff at Dunlap High School. So many of the great things at Dunlap High School that our students use and enjoy are not paid for by the district, but through the generosity of our parents and community.
This year, our organization aims to make an immediate difference to support the staff and students. After surveying the staff and discussing the various options with the administration, we have determined that we can make the most impact in the areas of technology and an outdoor area for the students.
We invite you to help us build up our “DHS Eagle’s Nest”! When you make a donation your business/family will be recognized on our Donor Wall, our recognition in the Commons as well as online. Our levels are as follows:
- White Feather ($50-99)
- Maroon Feather ($100 - $149)
- Gold Feather ($150-249)
- Eagle Egg ($250-499)
- Baby Eagle (500+) *
*Special Recognition will be given to donors $1000 and above
There are two EASY ways to make your tax-deductible donation:
- Donate via PayPal using DunlapHighPTO@gmail.com
- Donate via check payable to “DHS Parents’ Association” mailed to 5220 W. Legion Hall Rd, Dunlap 61525
* All donors will receive a receipt with the DHS Parents’ Association tax exempt ID number for your records.
Finally, please consider your company’s matching gifts policy. Currently, the Caterpillar Foundation is making a 1:1 Match for all gifts over $25. If you are a Caterpillar employee, visit https://www.caterpillar.com/en/company/caterpillar-foundation.html and search for « DHS Parents’ Association ». In addition to Caterpillar, many other companies offer matching gifts.
Thank you for helping to build our Dunlap High School Eagle’s Nest! If you have any questions please contact me at colleen.digi@gmail.com or 312-301-0417.
Sincerely,
