Attendance
While we understand cold and flu season is upon us, please take every measure to make it a priority for your child to attend school as much as possible. You can be proactive by scheduling appointments before and after school and reinforcing healthy hygiene habits at home to ward off germs. Our school goal is to keep a daily average attendance above 96%, which is considered excellent, for the year. We are currently at 96.5% since the start of the school year.
Thank you, in advance, for your partnership to ensure every student in our school has an opportunity to learn and grow each and every day here at Wolfsville!
Yours in Education,
Megan Stein, Principal

Character Counts Week
During the week of October 22-26, we will celebrate Character Counts Week. We will be doing a few activities related to these themes. We are inviting students and staff to join us in Character Counts Color Days. Each day of the week we will encourage students and staff to wear certain colors to represent our pillars of Character. Here is our schedule:
Mon., Oct. 22nd is Caring Day - Wear red to represent the heart and caring for others.
Tue., Oct. 23rd is Fairness Day – wear orange to represent how an orange can be divided evenly into equal sections.
Wed., Oct. 24th is Respect Day –Wear yellow to represent the “golden rule” – Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Thurs., Oct. 25th is Responsibility Day– Wear green to symbolize our perseverance and accountability for our actions.
Fri., Oct. 26th Trustworthiness Day and Citizenship Day –Wear blue to show you are a true friend to others and/or purple to show our deep commitment to being a great citizen.
We will be talking about these pillars each day on the morning announcements. Talk to your children about characters in their stories and how their actions represent the pillars of character. Talk to them about real-life heroes and people they know that reach out to help others and make a difference in their world. Thanks for your support of this special week.
Safe Schools Act
Governor Hogan signed into effect the Safe Schools Act of 2018. The law, among other things, encourages close cooperation between school systems and law enforcement. In Frederick County, our law enforcement partners have dedicated resources to schools by requiring officers to make checks at schools during their shifts. They will stop into schools and walk through them after notifying staff in the front office. Their intent is to be a proactive/positive presence. We appreciate this partnership in keeping all students and staff safe.

Reflections
The PTA Reflections contest will be starting in October. Look for the information packet in your student's upcoming Thursday Folder. Reflections is an arts in education program and is a great opportunity for students to exhibit their creative talents. The theme this year is "Heroes Around Me".
The deadline for entries will be November 2, 2018. Any questions can be directed to the PTA Reflections chairman Chelsea Pratt: checheila@yahoo.com.
Spiritwear Sale begins tomorrow!
Wolfsville Elementary PTA will open this year’s spiritwear sale on October 5. Look out for our flyer to come home this week in Thursday folders. All orders will be taken online; a link to the ordering site will be provided on sale opening date. Please note that the PTA anticipates that this will be our ONLY spiritwear sale for this school year, so get your shirts and jackets while you can!
Do you want to be a substitute teacher?
The school system needs substitute teachers. And we find that parents make the best subs!
You will love substitute teaching for these reasons:
- Flexibility: teach when, where, and how often you want.
- Money: you earn a fair hourly salary doing something you love.
- Recognition: you get honored for a job well done.
- Professionalism: you work with the FCPS teaching pros.
- Students: you change lives and make a daily difference.
- Great hours: an ideal job while your kids are in school.
You must love working with kids and have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Visit https://www.applitrack.com/fcps/OnlineApp/default.aspx?Category=Substitute to see all of the requirements and to apply online.
If you have additional questions, you can call the Sub Help Desk at 301-644-5120.
