Hope & Advice (May 30)
"Keep your chin up, trust in God, and believe in good things to come." - Jeffrey Holland
We’ve done great and good things in our work as educators. We’ve reached out and we’ve dug in. We’ve done more than we ever had thought about doing for the students who were to leave our buildings for the last time in March, not knowing what would come. We’ve done well and you should be proud.
It’s right to be proud of what you have done to deliver packets, meals, and smiles. You’ve tracked down student after student. You’ve learned that Zoom is something else besides going really fast. You are now a Google Certified educator (whether you have the certification or not!). You’ve done a lot and should be exceedingly proud of your efforts.
Right now, it’s also okay to feel hurt, to feel sad, to not feel okay. Right now, don’t skip the chance to talk about how you feel with people you like to talk to.
What will school look like? What should we be doing in June? What ought to be accomplished in the summer?
Let me offer my 2 cents...
- You’ve been running ninety-to-nothing since March 13. Some people may think that you’ve had a jolly-old time, but we know that this has been harder than if we’d been at school in normal circumstances.
- You may not have given yourself a chance to talk, a chance to think, a chance to heal. While you have been busy caring for others, who has been caring for you? You, like everyone else, has suffered loss.
- Take some time. Reflect. Talk to people you enjoy. Get it out. Walk. Breathe. Do what you need to do to be ready to do what comes next.
- Come to grips that life and school have changed. It's fair to say we won't ever be exactly the same. This doesn't have to be sad and depressing. A clean slate allows the opportunity to make things better.
For now, work to ready yourself for the work to be done, the work in June that will make August work well. Our work will be to listen, to love, to create a space where we can be whole again.

5th Grade Graduation Plan:
This Thursday will be the 5th grade graduation/celebration. We will have a staggered graduation drive-thru beginning at 3pm in the Warner Parking Lot. Here are some things to know:
- This is completely voluntary. Personally it would be great if everyone makes it, but this is personal choice. You can be at the celebration part-time, whole-time, or none. The option is yours.
- Staff is encouraged to park at the Senior Center. We will be spreading out throughout the Warner Parking Lot. Please bring a mask.
- 3pm approximately 20 graduates will begin the drive-thru celebration.
- 4pm approximately 20 graduates will begin drive-thru celebration.
- 5pm approximately 20 graduates will begin drive-thru celebration.
- When the vehicle gets to the front of the building the graduate will receive a t-shirt (rolled up like a diploma and a personalized letter). Families will have the option of letting their student out for a picture in front of the Warner sign.
- As families exit we will cheer and celebrate them.
* Any staff available on Wednesday at 11am to prep the t-shirts please meet at Warner.
