Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Even though school meals are now free for all students, parents/guardians are still encouraged to complete a meal application online to receive other benefits such as a Pandemic EBT card for each child. The website to apply is www.myschoolapps.com, or you can receive a paper application from the PHS front office. Please see the More than a Meal flyer for more information.
Off-Campus Pass Reminders from Attendance
Students may need to leave campus early for a doctor/dentist appointment or other reason. Only a parent/guardian may authorize an off-campus pass by calling the off-campus pass line at 858-748-0245 x5113 one day prior to the appointment.
- Parent/Guardian must call to request the pass if the student is leaving early.
- Notes requesting off-campus passes will NOT be accepted. 24-hour advance notice is advised. It is the student’s responsibility to pick up the pass at the Attendance Office before school, or at break or lunch.
- In the event of an emergency, a parent or guardian may come to the Attendance Office with a photo ID to check the student out.
- If a student leaves campus without a pass, it is considered a truancy and the absence cannot be excused.

Preseason Workouts - Open to All Athletes
Please join us at our Preseason Workouts starting the week of September 26th. Workouts will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5:30 in the Stadium Weight Room. Workouts will consist of lifting weights and running. We look forward to seeing you there!

Athletic Clearance - Winter Forms Due October 13
Please read the Instructions to Register, as the software has been updated and has a whole new look!
Turn in these original forms (scans, uploads, and photocopies will not be accepted) to the Athletic Office:
· Signed AthleticClearance.com confirmation page; and
· Completed PUSD Health History and Physical Exam forms. Physicals can only be accepted from a California Licensed Health Care Provider, are valid for 12-months, and cannot expire during the selected sports season.

AP Exam Registration
The AP Exam registration window for courses beginning in Trimester 1 will be open from September 1-November 4, 2022. Register before the November 4 deadline to avoid late registration fees!

PTSA Reflections Art Contest
National PTA has a long-standing commitment to arts education. The Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts, which boosts student confidence and success in the arts and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+-year-old program helps them explore their thoughts, feelings, and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and life.

We will have Belmont park to ourselves, all the Giant Dipper you can stand! We promise a terrific party and a memorable final get-together with your friends!

Seniors, College 101 Workshops start this week!
Keep Saying Hello
Start With Hello week in August welcomed everyone to the new school year. This week is about WHY we should keep saying hello. This week we reviewed a few steps to reinforce how we all can contribute to Poway High’s culture of inclusion and connectedness. This is Keep Saying Hello Week. Simply put, “See Someone Alone, Reach Out and Help and Start With Hello”.
When we “See Someone Alone” they may be experiencing an overwhelming feeling of being left out, socially isolated, lonely, or invisible. People who are isolated are more likely to get bullied and experience violence and depression. Of course, not everyone who alone feels this way, but you can help those who do.
The simple, but not always easy, steps to help those who are isolated and lonely are to Reach Out and Help, and to Start with Hello.
When you see someone alone, think about what life might be like for them.
Politely ask them about things in their lives, like how you’re alike and different, especially people from other backgrounds & cultures. Say something that tells them you’re interested or concerned. You’ve just helped! Talk to a trusted adult if this feels too awkward for you.
Maya Angelou said people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.
Keep taking care of yourselves and each other, leaving others with fond memories of how you treated them - and thank you!

988 - National Suicide Prevention
People in crisis and those trying to help them have a new three-digit phone number, 988, to reach the national suicide prevention network. Mental health experts are hoping that the three-digit number will deliver a breakthrough in assisting people in crisis who may otherwise try to harm themselves.
People who call, text, or chat 988 will be able to reach trained counselors who belong to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network.
For non-urgent matters on campus, Mrs. Struck, our Student Services Specialist, is in K25 to listen and answer questions in a safe atmosphere of acceptance, non-judgment, and confidentiality concerning a variety of life’s challenges. K25 is in the Counseling Building.
School Meal Information
All children in PUSD are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch meals regardless of income for the 2022-2023 school year. Please see the PUSD Food and Nutrition Website for more information.
