Message from Mrs. Sanford
Dear Hawk Point Families,
As we continue to focus on learning throughout our 4th quarter, I am proud of our students each and every day. Our students have been working hard to try new things, take risks, problem solve, and strive to work well within a team. As we move into the month of April, our students will also have the chance to show off their learning for the school year through their participation in state assessments.
Students in grades 3-5 will participate in the MAP assessment, which will be taken online. The students have been completing practice tests online to help them prepare. Please take a moment to review the letter in this newsletter regarding MAP testing information and dates for your child's grade level. You may also find this information in the important dates listed.
As you begin to think about the summer months, please consider enrolling your child in summer school. Our district is offering an engaging summer school program this year that is open to all students. Students who attend Hawk Point Elementary will be attending Boone/Lincoln Elementary for summer school. Your child should have brought home information in the past few weeks, but we have additional forms available in the office as needed.
Our lost and found is overflowing. If you are missing any items, please take a moment to stop and check our lost and found.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any comments, concerns or questions. I can be easily reached by email at sanfordm@troy.k12.mo.us or by phone at 636-338-4366. Thank you to all of you for your continued support.
Proud to be a Hawk,
Megan Sanford, Ed. S

Standardized Testing Information
During this month we will begin administering the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level test to grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Like last year, these tests will be administered ONLINE. Each of these grade-levels will test in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and 5th grade only will also take the Science portion of the test. Parents can preview the MAP Grade-Level Assessment administration system and the item types included on each assessment by reviewing the practice tests and tutorials that are available in the Missouri Assessment Program portal, called eDIRECT. Parents can access practice tests and tutorials by going to the MAP Grade-Level Assessment website:
(http://dese.mo.gov/college-career-readiness/assessment/grade-level) and clicking on Grade-Level Online Tools Training in the "Quick Links" box. No login or password is necessary to review practice tests or tutorials.
The HPE 2017 MAP testing window is April 10th – May 9th
Keep in mind that a test is a snapshot - it is a one-time look at a child’s performance. All children have skills and knowledge that tests do not measure. A single test score does not tell you everything about your child.
A BIG THANK YOU!!!
HPE collected OVER 1,000 food items!
What a positive impact in our community! Thank you for teaching
your child(ren) the importance of giving to others!

Attendance
Our school attendance goal is to have 97% or better attendance as a building each day. Please support our work in reaching this goal daily by ensuring that your child attends school regularly and arrives on time. Student attendance has a direct link to their achievement and their enjoyment of school. We appreciate your support in helping your child attend school regularly.
If your child needs to be absent, please contact the main office by 9 am to report the absence, as well as the reason for absence. You may also send a doctor's note with your child if available.
Student attendance is regularly monitored according to district policy. If significant concerns with a student's attendance arise, our goal is to partner with families to improve attendance. If a student's attendance does not improve, a follow up with the appropriate authorities is possible.

Major Saver Campaign Sales Start Up April 6th!
Small Card, BIG Results
2017 Lincoln County R-II Education Foundation Major Saver Campaign
The Lincoln County R-III Education Foundation is offering Major Saver cards for sale through the elementary and middle schools. Students will receive the sales packets on Thursday, April 6th and continue selling the $15 discount cards until Thursday, April 20th. Proceeds from the sale of Major Saver cards directly support the participating schools and Foundation.
The 2017 participating restaurants/establishments include: Troy Movie House, Casey’s, Woods Fort Restaurant, Hardee’s, Taormina’s, Cornerstone, Subway, McDonald’s, Great Clips, 54th St., Burger King, Chihuahua’s, Krumbly Burger, Woods Fort Golf Course, DQ, Victory Lane, Big Sticky’s BBQ, Imo’s, Sonic.
Small Card, BIG rewards
Major Saver cards can be purchased via cash, check or online at www.majorsaver.com. The online sale can be credited back to a particular student and school. All cards purchased online will be mailed directly to the customer.
Major Saver cards can also be purchased, and credited to a student, through the Major Saver App. Once the free app is downloaded to an Android or iOS device, buyers can choose a Major Saver card through the “buy cards” tab on the app. Once the buyer completes the transaction the offers will be stored in the Major Saver App. Buyers can then redeem offers directly from the app and do not need a physical card.
Major Saver stresses safe selling and discourages door to door campaigning. The company encourages students to sell to family members, church patrons, neighbors, other adults the family may know; and to always make sure their parents are involved.
Please consider purchasing one or more Major Saver cards this year to help benefit the Lincoln County School District and Lincoln County R-III Education Foundation.
Thank you for your support!

Meal Charging Procedures-Please make sure your child's lunch account is current.
Lincoln Co. R-III School District and Chartwells School Dining Services serve students with quality, well-balanced meals at affordable prices. All students have a meal account that is used to keep track of student deposits and purchases. Parents can view the balances of their child’s meal account via the SISK12 Parent Portal. Your children may qualify for free meals or reduced price meals. Parents need to complete the Free and Reduced Meal Application for all students in the household. The completed application is returned to Donetta Schieffer, 951 West College St., Troy, MO 63379. Students are required to keep meal accounts current with a positive balance. However, there are instances when meal accounts do reach a negative balance. If a student’s meal account has a negative balance, below are the District’s practices for students purchasing meals at school:
Students in grades K-5:
* Students are allowed to accrue a negative balance of -$10.00.
* Students that have a meal account balance of -$10.00 or more will not be allowed to
purchase a school tray meal but will receive toast with milk for breakfast and a sandwich with milk for lunch until their meal account has a positive balance.
* Email notifications will be sent weekly to parents.
* Every Friday letters will also be sent home with students who have a +$10.00 or below in their meal account.
