Monthly Updates
Final Updates...
I want to wish you all a FUN, safe, and healthy summer!
Just a few reminders for the last week of school...
Emergency Medications
- If your child has an Epi Pen or Inhaler located in the nurse's office, they will be asked to come to the office on the morning of Friday, June 16th to collect them.
- If your student will not be in school that day please have them come on another day that week.
Scheduled Daily Medications
- These medications will need to be picked up by a parent/caregiver.
- Since the last day of school is a half day and medications will not be administered, you can either come in Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
Have a great summer and I will see you in September!
~Nurse Lisa
The End Of The Year Is Coming Fast.....
It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through May! I have attached a letter for Rising 7th Grade Families-please read and review....
8th Grade Families whose students are going to the Washington D.C. Trip- Thank you to all the parents/caregivers who have passed in the medication forms required for medication administration. If you have not done so yet please send the form in ASAP. The form can be dropped off by the student or sent to the nurse via email located on the WMS website.
If your student was signed off to receive Over the Counter medications (Tylenol, Advil, etc.) during the year that consent will continue on to the D.C. Trip as well. If you had not signed your child off and would like to now, please see the OTC form attached and return to me via email or dropped off to the nurse's box in the main office no later than June 1, 2023.
If your student takes a scheduled daily medication they will need a medication administration form signed by a licensed prescriber. Without this form the student will not be able to receive daily medications while on the D.C trip. Please contact me with any questions or concerns...
Medication Drop Off
- Medications must be brought to the nurse's office by Thursday June 1st
- Only a 5 day supply of the medication will be allowed to suffice the duration of the trip
- A parent/caregiver MUST be the one to bring in the medication to be counted with the nurse and signed off on.
Please call or email me with any questions,
~Nurse Lisa
Happy Spring....
Hi Watertown Middle School Families,
I just wanted to share a couple of updates and start to prepare you for what will be needed for the end of the year..
Mandated Health Screenings
- The month of March has been very productive with health screenings. As a reminder, all grades are required to have a postural screening and 7th graders are also required to have a vision/hearing/SBIRT screening. If you wish for your child to NOT participate in these screenings please notify me in writing.
- In the end of April, (7th Grade Only) we will begin the hearing and SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, & Referral to Treatment) screenings during Advisory period. Please see the attached letters in the previous SMORE that outline these screenings in detail.
Field Trips
The Spring Season means lots of fun fieldtrips. If your child has a life threatening allergy requiring Epi Pen use, Asthma requiring inhaler use, Seizure history requiring rescue medication, or Diabetes, all medical information needs to be up to date in the Nurse's Office.
What does This Mean?
Anaphylaxis Action Plan and Epi Pen
Asthma Action Plan and Inhaler
Seizure Action Plan and Medication
Diabetic Care Plan and Supplies
These components all need to be current in order for your child to attend any WMS fieldstrips. If your child currently self-carries their medications (epi pen/inhalers) for the fieldtrip they will need to be brought to the nurse the day before the scheduled field trip. The nurse/delegated personnel will be carrying all medications during the fieldtrip. Upon return back to WMS students can resume self carry if that has been approved prior.
Scheduled Medications
If your child receives a scheduled medication they will still receive it on the fieldtrip by the nurse/delegated personnel. If you feel like that dose can be held for the day of the fieldtrip please notify me in writing.
End of Year To Do List
- The state mandates that all 7th Graders need to have a current physical exam on file by 4/30/23. If your student was missing one you have received an email. A final reminder will go out to those families that are still missing this information before April Vacation.
- On the last day of school all Epi Pens and Inhalers will be returned to students.
- For students with controlled scheduled medications- A parent/guardian will need to come to WMS and pick up the medication with the Nurse. All medications remaining by the end of day will be destroyed per protocol.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns..
~Nurse Lisa
Reminder
We will begin the Massachusetts Mandated Screenings (Postural for all grades, Vision & Hearing for 7th grade) on this Monday (3/6/23). Please ask your child/children if they have P.E. that day because screenings will occur during that scheduled time. Students should be addressed in appropriate attire (Girls-Sports Bras) in order to perform the postural screening. If you would like your child to NOT PARTICIPATE in these screenings please send me an email (lisa.gallagher@watertown.k12.ma.us) before Monday morning. Thank you to those caregivers who have already notified me of your choice to opt out of one or all of the screenings- this has been updated in your student's chart.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns..
