We will leave Tauranga early, stopping for a quick coffee/comfort break at Bombay, before continuing North to spend several hours at the wonderful Sculptureum, exploring the gardens & galleries. We were last here on our Far North Winery Tour, and clients enjoyed the venue so much that most intended to return for a longer visit.

The Sculptureum Experience is made up of three sculpture gardens and six art galleries spanning over 1.5km of flat paths. The private collection includes over 700 works of art by local and international artists. From live rabbits to the grand Chihuly glass chandelier and everything in between, you are guaranteed to find inspiration around every corner during your visit to this immaculately-kept attraction. You can lunch (at your own cost) in the prestigious Rothko Restaurant, or take a picnic lunch to have in the beautiful grounds

We will travel on to our accommodation in Matakana, the Matakana Motel.

You will be free in the evening to have dinner at the motel or to go to eateries within walking distance. We (Paul & Lyn) will be crossing the road to eat at The Market Kitchen & you are welcome to join us if you wish.


On Saturday, you will have time to visit Matakana's famous Farmers' Market before travelling on to our first venue.

Morris & James produces a wide range of beautiful hand-made pottery.” Established in 1977 by Ant Morris, today it is run by over a dozen artisans & craft-people, who continue Ant’s legacy, while exploring new creative directions & uses for clay.”

We have sometimes brought large strikingly-coloured pots back in the bus, in seat-belts, from this wonderful pottery.

Lunch will be enjoyed at one of our favourite venues, the exceptional Plume Restaurant, at Runner Duck Winery.

En route for home, we will visit Puhoi Cheese.

Puhoi was settled in 1863 by Bohemians, motivated by the offer of free land. Eighty-three emigrants settled far from their home on the other side of the world. After clearing the land they established themselves as farmers. European traditions continue at Puhoi with European-style cheeses made at the Puhoi Valley Cheese Company.
