Methods
Introduction: Welcome class to the computer lab. Tell them that the next 4 days they will be meeting here in the lab. Explain to students the project that they will be working on for the next few days. Make sure to go over computer lab rules.
Developmental: At this point, students have already covered the definition of communicable/non-communicable disease. Now, they will be taking a further look into a specific disease. Students will be assigned a disease by the teacher. After assigning a disease to each student, pass out the Health research project instruction page. This instruction page will outline everything students need to have completed at the end of this project. Students will research a disease, gather information on the disease, create a Prezi presentation, write a report on the disease, then present the whole project to the class. After going over the instruction page. Have students create a Prezi account and show them how it can be used. Next, pass out the disease worksheet which outlines all information about the disease that needs to be obtained. Have students begin conducting and recording research on their disease using reliable sources (this has been covered in previous class). Students will spend the next 4 classes doing research, creating prezi presentation, and writing report. On the fifth day of class, we will meet back at the classroom where students will present their projects.
Culminating: At the end of the presentations, talk about the importance of knowing signs of each disease. Being more aware of certain diseases can help you try and prevent the diseases that can be prevented. Knowing about diseases will also help understand the significance of them and put an end to common misconceptions. Students will be more prepared to deal with diseases that occur in everyday life. At the same time, students were able to use technology to do research.
