The following is information from the city of Des Moines regarding snow removal.
We would like to remind you that the 59th street area can be quite tricky in the wintertime.
The Department of Public Works is determined to provide residents with improved snow removal. Snow Routes will be plowed when snow accumulations are about 1 inch on roadways. Citywide and Odd/Even Plowing will occur as determined by the Public Works Director based on total accumulation, prevailing conditions and near future forecasts.
All residents need to participate by moving their vehicles off the street during snow removal operations. The City Council has amended Chapter 114 of the Municipal Code regarding citywide snow removal which states: “No parking will be allowed on residential streets during snow removal operations.”
Parking Warnings were issued by the Police Department during the first snow event December 8, 2013. Vehicles parked on the street will receive a $35 fine and may be subject to towing.

Winter Break Tips From Mrs. Doeden
Here are some tips to keep the kids (and you) from getting winter break blues
-Keep a consistent routine! Keep bed time and waking up times the same as during the school week.
-Try to keep meal times consistent and limit sugary foods
-Add in some fun things to do as a family such as movie night, playing a game together, or putting together a puzzle.
-Check out the local library to keep kids reading over break.
-Get outside and get fresh air as the weather allows
-Remember kids thrive on structure!
-Have a fun and safe winter break!
