Join in Churchwide Love Feast on August 2

Join us Sunday, August 2, for a churchwide Love Feast at 11 a.m. on Zoom. For the call, you will need a candle, match or lighter, a Bible, and a piece of bread and a glass of water for each participant.

Pastor Clay will read the liturgy and Errinne will lead the congregation with the responses in bold. Due to limits in technology and internet lag time, we ask that you keep your microphone muted as you read the congregational responses. Please print the liturgy (provided below) or have it available to follow along on another screen so we can continue to see one another on the Zoom call.

During the gathering, we will be reminded that we are one in the Spirit and one in Christ Jesus.

  • Candle - Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
  • Bible - God’s presence is with us at all times and places.
  • Water - We were baptized by water and the Spirit into God’s family.
  • Bread - Remember the times we have received the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Sunday, August 2 | 11 a.m.

Online Worship: Opening Our Hearts on August 2

Join us for online worship Sunday, August 2, as we look to Christ to help us reimagine hospitality. Christ invites us to show compassion and hospitality to those who are often on the margins and excluded from society. Showing this love and compassion starts with opening our hearts.

The worship service is available at any time Sunday or throughout the week using the button below. Please join us!

Worship with Us Any Time on Sunday

Use this link for the YouTube worship service playlist any time Sunday or later in the week.

Use this short form to let us know you worshipped with us at home. It also has space for prayer requests.

Bible App Study: Showing Hospitality

As we continue our Reimagine Hospitality worship series, join Pastor Clay and others for four days of the Bible app study, Showing Hospitality. Use the link to join in the daily devotional, which begins Monday, August 3.

Sharing isn’t exactly easy for children (or adults, for that matter). In this four-day study, your family will begin to view your “stuff”—from the extra space in your home to your children’s favorite toys—as gifts from God that He expects you to use in the care of His people. Each day includes a prayer prompt, brief scripture reading and explanation, hands-on activity, and discussion questions.

Virtual VBC Gets New Kids Involved, Knowing God

It wasn’t the Vacation Bible Camp we began planning last fall, but “Where in the World is God?” Virtual VBC provided some of the VBC staples like Bible stories, laughter, songs, dancing, games, prayer, connections, and more—on a platform we would never have dreamed possible! During July, VBC became a monthlong adventure accessible to families in their homes, on their own time, and/or during Zoom meetings. It was a hit with those involved!

“This experience was so great for our family. It really kept the kids connected to their friends and to their faith. The different activities kept them engaged and we had lots of good conversations about why they were doing them. I appreciate all the thought and love that went into this program.” -- Tiffany, parent

“We have interacted with VBC Zooms and loved it! The activities and crafts were fun, and everything was so engaging. Thank you for bringing VBC to our home!” -- Milissa, parent

“The virtual VBC was really fun and I got to do a lot of great activities.” -- Mia

“I liked learning about God and different people in the Bible. And I liked seeing my friends.” -- Sophie

“I liked the crafts, especially the whale and piggy!” -- Ellin and Joel

“I loved making friends and seeing people on Zoom!” -- Abigail

Here are a few stats from this year's Virtual VBC and July with Vista Kids!

  • 600 stuffed activity packs, divided into 5 weeks, for a total of 120 VBC bags. (A huge thanks to Christina Dixon, Chanel Ridgley, and Amber Ridgley for putting them together!)
  • 13 Zoom calls with 40-plus children.
  • 4 Facebook Live Cooking events hosted by 3rd-5th graders.
  • A kickoff and bag pickup event put together with the help of Children’s Council.
  • 733 canned meat items collected for Christian Community Action Food Pantry.
  • 50 children participating in Virtual VBC that were not previously involved with Vista Ridge UMC.
  • Daily challenges that tied into the weekly stories.
  • Children making new friends, even if through a computer screen.
  • Kids excited to share the ways they connected with scripture and story.

Canned Meat Challenge a Big Win for CCA Food Pantry

Way to go, Vista Kids! You came back to take the win from the youth in the Canned Meat Challenge. A total of 733 canned meat items were collected for the Christian Community Action Food Pantry! It was a two-day combined total of 382 cans in the Vista Kids cart and 351 in the youth cart. A big thank you to Vista Kids, the youth, and everyone who participated in the challenge. Watch for a special video of the youth with pie in their faces and photos of this year's Virtual VBC.

Back to School Drive: More than 1,700 Items Donated

More than 1,700 school supply items and $135 in cash is going to Christian Community Action to help their angel families this fall, thanks to the generous donations by our Vista Ridge families. The Classic Women, organizers of the Back to School Drive, extend a big thank you to all of those who contributed toward this important mission project. They are especially grateful for the success of the drive because everyone had to take the time to shop and then make a special trip to the church this year to drop off their items.

Giving Statements Sent by Email

Each family was sent an email this week with their giving statement and a letter about the church’ financial status. Please reach out to Carolyn Dennison at for assistance or inquiries.

Study of the Book of Revelation

Book of Revelation Study to Begin August 9

The Revelation to John, otherwise known as the Book of Revelation, has puzzled Christians for centuries because of its strange visual imagery and heavily coded message. Beginning Sunday, August 9, the Into the Word class will seek a better understand what the text meant to its original audience and what we might learn from it today.

The class will meet virtually on Zoom from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Sunday mornings for the six-week study. Anyone interested in joining the study is absolutely welcome. This is a great opportunity to get involved in a small group.

The study book, Breaking the Code: Understanding the Book of Revelation by Bruce M. Metzger (revised by David A. deSilva), is available from Cokesbury and Amazon.

Save the Date: Back to School Blessing

We will meet virtually on Sunday, August 16, for a Back to School Blessing for our students, teachers, administrators, and school staff as they return to learning this fall. This school year has posed many challenges and apprehension due to COVID-19. Please mark your calendars so we can come together as a church family to support and pray for those going back to school.
