FAC Summer Update

July 21, 2022

Good Afternoon, Fine Arts Center Family

I hope that you and yours are enjoying a fantastic summer!

It is hard to believe, but we are just one month from the start of the 2022-2023 school year. While we continue to enjoy the break, we are so excited for what this school year holds for our FAC students! This summer has been busy - we've added some new Faculty, improved some studio spaces, and worked to plan out experiences for our students that will have a lasting impact on their artistic growth.

Please read on for more information, including some important tasks that need to be taken care of by new and returning students prior to the start of the school year. As always, please call our Main Office with any questions - (864) 355-2550.

FAC Open House - Wednesday, August 10

  • Get information regarding the FAC Partners - the 501c3 that supports our students and our school

For our new FAC students and families - if you missed the "Newly Accepted Student Night" in the spring, Mr. Popat will be giving the same presentation at 5:00 p.m. during the Open House. 2022-23 FAC Student/Parent Handbook

The FAC Student/Parent handbook is an essential document that all members of the FAC school community must be familiar with. The handbook is updated annually and contains both District-Wide and FAC information that is critical to our daily operations. All new and returning FAC students and parents are required to read the handbook prior to the start of the school year.

The FAC Student/Parent handbook is accessible by clicking on the following link - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QmDwAQ5rn4nMYD7esFWJvvQsl1dnnf1dJW0Omj_q6Hc/edit?usp=sharing. The handbook will also be posted on the FAC Website within the next two weeks under the "Parents/Students" tab.

Upon completing the task, you must fill out the following Google Form, acknowledging that you have read the handbook - https://forms.gle/vpUgQksPQ5SE94968. In order to attend the FAC, all students must complete this Google Form by Thursday, August 11, 2022.

2022-23 Fine Arts Center Student Information Form

Another critical task that needs to be completed annually by all of our students, new and returning, is the 2022-23 Fine Arts Center Student Information Form. This form allows you to provide us with the most up-to-date contact information so that our records are accurate. Such information should also be updated in Backpack by parents on an annual basis. Collecting this information via a Google Form provides us with a secondary data source to ensure that we can reach out to you.

Please click on the following link to complete the form - https://forms.gle/dVsUKrXL9V6ckB3i9.

Again, we need this completed by all families. One form per student, please.

Should you be unable to access the form, or require a computer to complete this task, please reach out to our Main Office - (864) 355-2550. We can schedule an appointment for you to come to the FAC to complete this task.

The deadline to complete this task is Thursday, August 11. Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Are you new to the FAC and a Private, Charter, Virtual or Home School Student?

If so, we are required to have the following information from you before school begins on August 15:

  • 2 Proofs of Residency (1 Lease or Mortgage Statement, 1 Utility bill)
  • Birth Certificate
  • SC Certificate of Immunization with requirements met for 7th-12th grade (or Religious Exemption)
  • Court-issued documents (if applicable)
  • IEP or 504 paperwork (if applicable)

Please come by at your earliest convenience so a member of our staff can make, receive and verify copies, preferably before August 4, 2022 on Monday-Thursday from 8:30-4:00. Please contact the Fine Arts Center at 864.355.2550 if you have any questions.

Student IDs for Non-GCS Students

All new and returning non-GCS students should email us a recent picture so that we can create your FAC school ID for 2022-2023. Please email your picture to kdbryan@greenville.k12.sc.us by Thursday, August 11. IDs will be ready for students on the first day of school.

Student Directory Information

The Fine Arts Center maintains an active presence on Social, Digital, and Print Media. Student names are featured in concert and event programs, and we publicize FAC student participation in local performances across the Greenville area. We take every opportunity to promote the work of our students and faculty, and therefore it is important that all parents review the following documents:

If you do not want us to include your child in our publicity efforts, please complete and return the Directory Information Opt-Out form by Thursday, August 11. Forms can be mailed to or dropped off at the FAC. We will have paper copies of the forms available at the FAC for anyone who cannot print the form at home. For the GCS website on protecting student privacy, please visit https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/Parents/main.asp?titleid=privacy.

Bus Transportation

GCS Students

Bus transportation is available to/from the Fine Arts Center from all of the Greenville County Public High Schools for the 9:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. classes. However, please be aware that there is no transportation to the Fine Arts Center for our 8:00 am classes. Buses are available to take students in the 8:00 am class from the FAC to their High School. To arrange for transportation from your child's GCS High School to the FAC (and back), you must reach out to your Home-Base high school and speak to the personnel in charge of transportation. We cannot make this arrangement for you - you must make the request.

*Note - Bus transportation is not provided for students who attend Wade Hampton High School on Special Permission (Change in Assignment).

Non-GCS Students (Private, Charter, Home, or Virtual School)

Most private and charter schools will not provide bus transportation to/from the Fine Arts Center. Please call your school to confirm.

FAC Parking Permits

Parking spaces at the Fine Arts Center are facilitated in cooperation with Wade Hampton High School. All FAC students who wish to drive to school, with the exception of WHHS students, must purchase a FAC parking pass. In order to purchase a FAC parking permit:

  • GCS Students - your must possess a parking permit from your home high school and maintain compliance with the parking policy and protocols of their home high school. Again, Wade Hampton HS students do not need a FAC parking permit - they may park in the lot using their WHHS permit.

  • Non-GCS Students must purchase a FAC parking permit.

  • FAC assigned spaces are provided to students on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Complete the Fine Arts Center Parking Application Form and Policy via Google Form - https://forms.gle/ZqWsZc17PcabXRPb9.

  • Pay the required parking fees after your application has been approved. Ms. Michel will send you a link for payment via email.

Ms. Michel will review applications and provide instructions for payment and next steps via email. Failure to have the correct documentation on file with the school at any point throughout the year could result in the denial of parking privileges. Please reach out to Ms. Michel at nmichel@greenville.k12.sc.us, or call our Main Office at (864) 355-2550 with any questions.

Students Being Transported by Other FAC Students

With the completion of a required form, students are permitted to ride in a car driven by another student to and from the Fine Arts Center. The form must be completed by the riding student and signed by the student’s parent, and is available on the Fine Arts Center website - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y986zqwCVXnQ-rcFUJrS5HuGnh8j_Rn3/view. Students transporting an unapproved rider will result in the suspension of driving privileges.
