Principal’s Notes
As we finish our first two full weeks of school, we have much to be thankful for. Our students are in the building five days a week and we are able to operate on a more or less normal schedule. With community transmission of COVID at high levels, we have had and will probably continue to have rolling quarantines. These quarantines are extremely inconvenient for everyone, but they are one of the many strategies we are using to try to keep everyone safe and to limit the spread of this virus. We are so thankful for our families’ cooperation and support when we have to quarantine students. Quarantining helps us keep the school open for in-person instruction.
We at SCCPSS continue to urge everyone who has not yet been vaccinated to consider getting the vaccine. The vast majority of new COVID cases are among the unvaccinated, so please think about protecting yourself and others by getting vaccinated. The more people are vaccinated, the less the virus will be able to spread.
While COVID has been at the top of everyone’s mind, we are continuing the work of learning here at Bloomingdale. We are assessing our students’ learning in grades K-5 using two main tools, the iReady Diagnostic Assessment and the MAP Assessment. These two assessments will give us a great deal of information to see where each student is doing well and where each student would benefit most from some extra support. These are not standardized tests that are used for state data reporting, but they are tools to help our teachers to know how best to work with each student.
We are looking forward to our Virtual Back To School Night coming up on Thursday, August 26 at 5:30 P.M. This is an opportunity for parents to get information from their child’s grade level team and to ask questions. We will also be having a brief PTA General Session that evening and we will be holding a Title I Parent Information Meeting that evening. We hope you can participate in our Back to School Night.
Thank you to our Bloomingdale Bear families for all your support and encouragement over these first two and a half weeks of school. We are so proud of our young scholars and all the learning they are doing.
Respectfully,
Eric Heady
Principal

When to Keep Students Home from School
We are all on heightened awareness these days regarding the CoronaVirus. We wash our hands often, wear our masks and try out best to social distance to help keep ourselves and others safe from this illness. Parents may have questions when it comes to making a decision to send their students to school or not if they are not feeling their best.
Here is a list of signs and symptoms to watch for:
a. Fever of 100.4° or greater orally, or 99.4° with non-touch handheld thermometers
b. Feeling feverish (chills, sweating)
c. New cough
d. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
e. Fatigue
f. Muscle aches or body aches
g. New loss of taste or smell
h. Sore throat
i. Vomiting, diarrhea, or nausea
j. Congestion or runny nose
k. Headaches
If your student has any of these symptoms, you are encouraged to have them checked out by their doctor. Any student sent home with any one of these symptoms will be required to have a Negative Covid-19 test to return to school. If your child is sick, please keep them home and notify the school.
Let’s do our part to contain this virus. Thank you and stay safe!
