* Please remind your students of our communal obligation to keep one another safe and well: this includes wearing a mask that covers mouth and nose, frequent hand-washing, and maintaining distance with others except when necessary for cooperative learning.
* Students should bring at least one extra mask to school each day in case their masks gets wet or soiled.
NEW SENSORY PATHS WILL HELP STUDENTS STAY FOCUSED FOR LEARNING
Occupational Therapist Kristin Croutworst recently installed two sensory paths on the floors of Stamford School. The paths, located outside our elementary classrooms, are designed to engage students in sensory and motor activity in order to help them learn.
To learn more about the benefits of Sensory Paths in schools, read this article from Huffington Post Canada that describes what Sensory Paths are, and how they help students in schools:

WELCOME NEW SCHOOL COUNSELOR, Ms. LESLIE LEFF
Dear Stamford Families, As the new school counselor at our school, I really enjoyed meeting your children this past week and very much look forward to getting to know them better. What terrific children you have! The school year is off to a great start. My name is Leslie Leff. (The kids call me “Ms. Leslie.”) I live in Chesterfield, MA with my husband, Michael, and our dog, Mateo. We have three grown children. For nearly two decades, I worked as an elementary classroom teacher, but due to my interest in working with the whole child with a focus on their emotional and social well-being, I returned to graduate school to become a clinical social worker. For the past six years, I have worked as a child/family psychotherapist with children who have experienced trauma and with their families in Northampton, MA. Eager to combine my two careers, I got my certification as a school social worker and have been working in our school district as a school counselor for the past year and a half. This year, I have reduced my psychotherapy practice to one day a week and I will be working as the school counselor at Halifax School two days a week, and at Stamford on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Fridays, I will be teaching “Guidance” classes. These will consist of learning more about our emotions and how to regulate our energy levels. We will also develop constructive communication skills to learn how to let people know how we feel in a way that is honest, but also respectful and kind. We will also learn about cooperation, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution, among other things. Tuesdays at Stamford will be my counseling days. I will be available to work with kids one-on-one and/or in groups to build social and emotional regulation skills, to help work through issues that they are struggling with, or just to talk. I am also happy to talk with any of you about how to support your children in school. Please feel free to contact me at lleff@halifaxschool.net Warmly, Leslie
