Please contact Dr. Larrissa Henderson, Director of Pupil Services if you have additional questions. 425-9009 or lhenderson@ortn.edu

IMPORTANT ACT INFORMATION FOR ALL JUNIORS & SENIORS!

Seniors are automatically registered for the ACT at Oak Ridge High School for Tuesday, September 22nd. However, all seniors must complete ACT demographics prior to this date. Students will be completing these demographics during Guided Study or Service Learning classes on September 14th and 15th. Students who do not have a Guided Study or Service Learning class or are in Connect OR or Middle College have received an email with a link to sign up for a time to complete demographics.

Juniors will be taking a practice ACT on September 22nd. This practice test is strongly encouraged for Connect OR juniors, but there are no demographics to complete.

SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS - SIGN UP FOR PSAT

Attention all Sophomores and Juniors: The PSAT/NMSQT® is an OPTIONAL test that will be offered to 10th and 11th graders at Oak Ridge High School on Wednesday, October 14th at 7:50 a.m. This date is set by PSAT/CollegeBoard. Because Wednesday is a virtual learning day, students that register for the PSAT will be responsible for arranging transportation to and from school on that day. The test should end around 1:00 p.m.

Registration will be conducted on four occasions during lunch: September 1st, September 3rd, September 8th and September 10th. A registration table will be set up on these days in the main lobby near the Food Court. Students can stop by to register. The cost is $17. Students should bring a check in the amount of $17 made out to Oak Ridge High School with the student’s name and PSAT in the subject line. Cash will also be accepted (exact change preferred) but checks are preferred. No refunds are available if you do not take the test. A limited number of exams are available. Please sign-up by the September 10th deadline.

OAK RIDGE SCHOOL ADDRESSES CYBERSECURITY

Due to the COVID pandemic, students use of the internet has increased (mostly due to boredom and not due to academics). This has created an increase in the number of reported online predator cases. In response to the increase in reported cases, several States have created special task forces to better protect children. As this has been making the news, the purpose of this flyer is to inform the Oak Ridge Schools' families the measures taken to provide a safe online environment for our students.

SENIOR INFORMATION

SENIOR PICTURE UPDATE!

ORHS has pushed back the Senior pictures. The goal was to maintain the traditional pictures but have a plan which accommodates the safety of students. While this plan took time to develop, there was also a need to allow families more time to arrange financial obligations related to senior pictures. Therefore, the dates have been pushed to October 16th (Gray team) and October 19th (Cardinal team) with a makeup day on Wednesday, November 11th from 8 - 12. A package will arrive at your home this week from McEacheren's Photography with all the details. It is important for Seniors to bring their APPOINTMENT TIME information with them to school as a pass to be released from class. Below is a PDF of the letter accompanying the full picture information.

TN PROMISE - TAKE CARE OF THIS TODAY!

The Class of 2021 TN Promise application is now officially open! All applicants can apply at www.tnpromise.gov. The Class of 2021 application deadline is November 2, 2020. Class of 2021 applicants will begin receiving weekly Monday emails this fall, with all students added to our distribution list after the November 2, 2020 application deadline. The sooner a student applies, the sooner our communication can begin! All students will remain on our communication list throughout scholarship eligibility. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are also included on tnAchieves student communication, so it is imperative that students provide correct contact information for themselves and their parent/guardian when applying for the scholarship. All counselors, principals and superintendents will also receive weekly emails, which will include a copy of the student email to ensure you are aware of tnAchieves communication regarding TN Promise scholarship requirements.

Due to COVID-19, tnAchieves has adjusted our meeting structure for the Class of 2021.

Attached you will find a copy of the Class of 2021 student timeline, which includes information regarding handbook distribution and TN Promise meetings, as well as step-by-step instructions for completing the TN Promise application. You can also find resources in the Class of 2021 counselor toolkit on our website. Please let me know how tnAchieves can assist you and your students during the application season. We are always happy to help!

"OPENING OF SCHOOL" INFORMATION

DRESS CODE!

Oak Ridge Schools addresses appropriate dress for students in the Disciplinary Code Handbook on page 15, 16. Parents, we need your help in ensuring students are appropriately dressed before leaving home.

Specifics should be reviewed by families. https://www.ortn.edu/Pupil-Services/2020_ORS_Discipline_Code_Handbook.pdf

The Board of Education believes that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment. The Board expects students to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to wear suitable clothing. Students are asked to wear simple, comfortable clothing that is clean and neat. Shoes should be worn at all times. Generally speaking, students are not to wear clothing that compromises safety or modesty; nor clothing, w h i c h is disruptive to the educational process.

The guideline below was taken from another district; however, the guidelines are essentially mirror the guidelines set forth from the Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education.

New student drivers - Get your SF-1010 form

There is NO PARKING in the WildBand practice area of the parking lot located on the Oak Ridge Turnpike. This area is clearly marked with yellow lines closest to the Turnpike. Students can use their badge to print the form at school or pick up a copy in Student Services from Mrs. Rhinehart.

Students at the highschool may choose a locker. The exact locker number and location is required to fill out the Google form! Once a student decides the locker they would like to have, they can complete the online form and pick up their combination from Mrs. Brockwell in the Main Office.
