PTA Volunteer of the Year

Congratulations to our very own Grandpa Jack for receiving the much deserved PTA Volunteer of the Year award. Mr. John (Jack) Stadtlander has served on our campus as one of our Watch D.O.G.S. almost every single day all year. We are blessed to have him greeting students first thing in the morning and encouraging them to have a great day. He works with students throughout the day reading with them or helping them on math. He assists with dismissal in the afternoon sending the students home with a smile. VAES is also nominating Mr. Stadtlander for the SBOE Heroes for Children Award. You Matter at VAES, Grandpa Jack!

Principal's Pulse

May 2nd - May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Week! I know you will join me in sharing your gratitude to our teachers and staff for all of their hard work throughout the year. Please take time to jot them a note of appreciation or have your child draw them a picture with a thank you note to let them know they matter to you. VAES Teachers and Staff Matter!

We have had an eventful week of learning. Please take time to scroll through the pictures below to see some of the happenings this week. Also, the calendar events at the bottom of the newsletter highlights many activities for the month of May. Please mark your calendars accordingly.

I would like to invite you to join me in the library on Wednesday, May 4th from 11:45 - 12:45 for the Brown Bag Lunch with the principal. We have invited our new kinder parents to join us and hope that parents who have joined our school this year will join us as well. The topic will be "Everything You Want to Know about VAES" along with anything else you want us to address. Bring your lunch and your questions.

Please see the note below regarding our closed campus on STAAR testing days on May 9 & 10. We will have students testing in our office area. Please do not bring lunches or other forgotten items to your children on those two days regardless of grade level. We appreciate your understanding.

We look forward to seeing you at the Fun Run on May 7th if not sooner. Thank you for sponsoring our VAEF to allow them to award teacher grants and student scholarships.

You Matter at VAES!

Important Cafeteria Information

Van Alstyne ISD Child Nutrition wants to give parents a friendly reminder that starting on April 29, 2016, students will not be allowed to charge meals for the remainder of the school year. This is to ensure Child Nutrition has all account balances in the positive. If you have any questions please call Elementary Cafeteria Manager Stephanie Lewis. We appreciate your understanding and patience with this situation. (903)482-8830

2nd Grade Skype Event

Some of our 2nd graders were able to bring the real-world into the classroom this week via Skype. Mr. Ross is the great uncle of two of our students, and he shared information about his career as a geologist in San Angelo. We appreciate Mr. Ross taking the time to speak with our students.

3rd Grade Activities

Our 3rd graders are still trying to earn coins to beat Bowser during their Mario Camp lessons. They are continuing their economics unit this week as well.

4th Grade Electricity Study

Our 4th graders have been learning about electricity this week. Mr. Beau Williams visited our campus to discuss how electricity works and safety surrounding it. Thank you for bringing the electricity model from GCEC to share with our students. They also had fun learning about static electricity with balloons.

Closed Campus for State Testing

The 3rd and 4th graders will be taking the STAAR Math Test on Monday, May 9th and the STAAR Reading Test on Tuesday, May 10th. We will have a closed campus to all visitors and volunteers on both days. This affects all grade levels. Please do not plan to eat lunch or bring lunch to your child on Monday and Tuesday. We love having you on campus throughout the year, and we welcome you to be here on any day except the state assessment days. We appreciate your support and understanding. Thank you for your help.

Please ensure your child's immunizations are up to date!

Students must have all immunizations current in order to be placed on a class list for the 2016-2017 school year. Please see the information below to determine which immunization(s) your child may need. For our campus, this mostly affects incoming Pre-K and Kinder students.
