Dear Families,
Each spring, one of our most important and challenging tasks is developing class lists and building learning communities that are balanced and allow all students to receive the instruction they require to learn and grow. Teachers and staff members take this process very seriously and put a great deal of time and effort into creating strong classroom communities of learners. Many different factors are considered during placement including students’ academic needs, social and emotional development, peer relationships and group dynamics. As a result, we are not able to accept or honor requests for specific teachers. Parents are invited to share any important information they wish to have considered about their child’s learning style or needs through the student placement forms sent out last week.
We recognize that students can be anxious about the beginning of a new school year. In order to try to eliminate some of that worry, we will be hosting ‘move-up’ days for students during the last week of school. Additional information about move-up day will be sent to parents from their building principals. On ‘move-up’ day, students will be told who their teacher will be for the coming school year. They will then have a chance to visit their new classroom and see who their classmates are. Teachers will welcome their new classes and talk a little bit about what to expect in the year ahead.
We hope that this experience will help all of our students feel comfortable with the transition and start their summer off on a high note. Please be aware, that while classroom assignments are intended to be final, exceptional circumstances sometimes arise such as unexpected enrollment changes, parental leaves or staff resignations that could require changes to be made. If any changes need to be made to a child’s class placement, parents will be notified directly. While this is unlikely, we want to be sure all parents understand it is a possibility.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ingrid Allardi
COVID-19 Health Update
As you may be aware, there has been an increase in the number of Covid 19 cases reported recently across the commonwealth. While case counts at our schools continue to remain flat, we want to take this opportunity to remind parents that your continued vigilance in monitoring your children for symptoms of Covid 19 and keeping children home if they are not feeling well, is vital to protecting the health of our school community. As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we want to keep our students feeling well and able to participate in end of year learning activities and special events. Your support is essential to these efforts. We continue to emphasize the importance of handwashing and maintaining healthy habits.
If you have not signed up for the district optional weekly COVID testing program, you are still able to do so. To sign up click on the Norfolk Public Schools Rapid Antigen Testing Opt-In Form.
We are asking all students and staff members who are participating to self-administer the at-home tests weekly on Wednesdays. If your child tests negative, you do not need to report the results. If your child has a positive test result, please contact our school nurses who will assist you with next steps at:

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
As you may know, the PTO organizes a teacher appreciation luncheon every spring on the half day that falls in May. This year the luncheon will be held on Friday, May 27th and we are asking for assistance in two ways:
1. Cash donations that will be put towards catering - please Venmo to @Lynn-Kealty or send in cash donations to school in an envelope with Lynn Kealty's name. No amount is too small, and any donation is appreciated!
2. Donate goods to be dropped off at school the day before or day of the luncheon. A sign up for each school is below. We are also looking for a few people to decorate at HOD.
