News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
We hope that you had a nice week and were able to enjoy some sunshine! As we shared on morning announcements this past week, yesterday was virtual, National Field Day through OPEN Physical Education. Even though there was a chill in the air, the sun was shining and many Bulldog students and teachers participated! If you had an opportunity to try out some of the events, be sure to email Mrs. Jackson or your classroom teacher with a photo or video. You can also use social media to share your FUN @OPENPhysEd #NationalFieldDay #NBEFieldDay. If you did not get an opportunity to watch this great video from Mrs. Jackson and her grandchildren to kick off the events yesterday, you will want to take a minute to watch it. Way to go Mrs J - singing while doing a "fit and fun" activity! Who else has been extra creative today or this week? We would love to see pictures and videos!!
To stay updated, please be sure to review Dr. Bourff's video message as well as the FAQ section of our HSE website as this does provide answers to many questions and is continuously updated.
Our priority continues to be making positive connections and helping support your student's social-emotional needs during this time! Teachers have identified priority standards to cover; however, they understand the importance of students feeling safe and healthy in order to learn. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! Stay healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
THANK YOU Teachers
Indianapolis Children's Choir - Virtual Neighborhood Choir Academy
Dear 3rd and 4th grade NBE Families,
We have an exciting opportunity to be part of the Indianapolis Children's Choir Virtual Neighborhood Choir Academy! This is a program that has been developed by ICC during this season of eLearning. Students will be expected to watch six, lesson videos (5 to 10 minutes each) and practice with rehearsal tracks. Then you must practice on your own and send your video to the Indianapolis Children's Choir by May 29th. I will send the details of rehearsals and process for sending videos. You must email me at kthornsberry@hse.k12.in.us if you want your student to participate. I will email back stating that I have added you to the list. There are permission slips involved so I must communicate with a parent/guardian! I will assign students to either soprano or alto part. Here is the best thing! This opportunity is completely FREE! If you love to sing and you want to get better at singing and get training from some of the best music educators in the state, then this opportunity is for you!!

Nurses' Appreciation Week - May 6-12
News from PTO
Hamilton Southeastern School Panorama Survey
Instead, we plan to gather feedback from stakeholders as we strive to continually improve our communication, responses, and actions during this unique eLearning situation. Therefore, on Monday, May 4, HSE launched a different set of surveys specifically created for this time. The data collected from these surveys will be used in three ways:
- To evaluate the eLearning experience and communication;
- To inform preparations for the reopening of school;
- To prepare for future school closures.
On May 4, a link to the family survey was sent directly from Panorama Education to your family. Third and fourth grade students were also emailed a link to a student survey; it was also included in their eLearning activities from their teacher during the week of May 4. If you and your student have not already completed this survey, we would appreciate hearing from you. The survey closes on Friday, May 15. If you would prefer your student not participate in the survey, please email Eric Day at eday@hse.k12.in.us to have your student’s survey link deactivated.
Helpful Resources from Mrs. Leiner - 2nd Step
During the 2019-2020 school year our students have been actively participating in the Second Step program which is our Social Emotional Learning curriculum which has been taught weekly in the classroom setting. This curriculum focuses on promoting and teaching social, emotional, and academic success. The four units include: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotional Management and Problem Solving. These are all vital learning skills now more than ever.
This is a difficult time for our students and families and Second Step has provided New On-Demand, Teacher-Led Lessons and Videos along with free resources for families to access Free of Charge. The New On-Demand lessons are in the 3rd section of this link and are taught by Second Step teachers and counselors.
Please visit this link which outlines all the resources and tools Second Step is providing to teachers and families. Please take a look at some of these free lessons for your family.

A Little about Me
I am coming to the end of my 17th year as a teacher/administrator. I began outside of Chicago as a middle school PE teacher. My wife (Kimberly) and I then moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where I was in an elementary school for 7 years as a teacher and then 4 years as an Assistant Principal. This is my fourth year here as a Bulldog. I am married to my amazing wife Kimberly (20 years this August) and we have three children. Kara (13) is a 7th grader at Noblesville West, Maci (10) is a 4th grader at Hinkle Creek and Caleb (8) is a 2nd grader, also at Hinkle Creek. I enjoy juggling, speaking Spanish, playing golf, working with wood and being with my family.
What Brings Me Joy:
I love seeing people learn and grow. No matter if it is spiritually, physically or academically, it is amazing to see the light bulb come on and individuals gain confidence and independence, no matter their endeavor.
Favorite Food:
My absolute favorite food is an Impossible Burger from BruBurger Bar.
Favorite place to visit:
I just love to travel and explore just about anywhere. I have had the opportunity to travel to Europe, Russia and the Caribbean. I love seeing other cultures and getting to know the people. If I had an opportunity to go anywhere in the world it would definitely be to Scotland to play golf.
