Area Art Educators Attend Florida Art Education Association Fall Conference

Three elementary art educators, Henrietta Adams, Carrie Peery and Karleen Roll, attended the four day Florida Art Education Association Fall Conference along the beautiful beaches of Daytona, Florida this past October. While at the conference, the three art teachers were introduced to cutting edge art materials and exciting new projects that align with the Common Core State Standards. The educators were also able to contract with several national art companies to come host district art workshops for all ECSD elementary art educators. The three conference attendees are currently planning upcoming workshops for all ECSD elementary art teachers on various topics: using iPads for art projects and classroom management, glass fusing, kiln safety and productivity, Chihuly glass lessons, new paint products, product experimentation with supplies from several art vendors, making beads out of scrap clay, Zentangles, Native American sculptures and coral reef sculptures. We are thankful that ECSD art educators can grow professionally and share with their art colleagues.

Hellen Caro Artists Get the Point

Under the instruction of art educator Marcy McGahan, fourth grade students at Hellen Caro learned about the French Pointillist painter, Georges Seurat. Georges Seurat created a painting called Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte. He started the painting in 1884 and finished it in 1886 with 3,456,000 dots of color. The original painting hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago and measures 10 feet wide by 7 feet tall.

In April of 2013, four Hellen Caro students started their own version of Seurat’s painting. Those artists were Kamryn Pinder, Mallory Pharr, Tiffany Lee, and Ashley Laczko from Mr. Madison’s class. The artwork was completed in May 2013 and was dedicated to the front office of Hellen Caro Elementary this school year for permanent collection.
