Message from the Principal
Dear Central Road Families,
This year, our 1st grade classrooms piloted a new reading curriculum, Fountas and Pinnell Classroom (FPC). FPC will be adopted in our K-3 classrooms next year and our 4-6 classrooms the following school year. The curriculum is rich with learning activities that include interactive read-alouds, shared reading, guided reading, independent reading, writing, phonics and word study lessons. The vision and core values of the FPC curriculum is to create schools that recognize every child’s right to grow up literate as a member of a dynamic learning community that values the richness of linguistic, ethnic and cultural diversity. Students are motivated to investigate new ideas that fuel intellectual curiosity and act as powerful agents to their own learning. We are looking forward to this new curriculum adoption.
The PBIS ( Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) data for the month of December reflected that as a school we were 97% major free. In the month of December we had 21 majors; 17 students were responsible for the majors. As a result, we will celebrate our school success by playing PBIS school-wide bingo on Friday, January 18.
The ACCESS testing window begins on January 17th and ends on February 8th. Students who qualify for ESL or Bilingual Resource services will be assessed in the four language domains of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The ACCESS test is administered once a year to determine a child’s language proficiency. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats breakfast and is prepared for the upcoming assessments. Please reach out to Ms. Sarli, Ms. Torres, Ms. Cortes, Mrs. Simonian, Mrs. Cabrera or Ms. Conrad for schedules that pertain to your child.
The PTA is sponsoring a Liz Belter Memorial Fundraiser, Saturday, January 26th, 7pm @ Rep's Place (3200 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows, IL): Please join us as we remember a dear friend. There are 100 tickets available for Central Road School and 100 for Kimball Hill School. Free food with your ticket and a cash bar available. Tickets are $20/child and $25/adult (in advance), payable on our CR PTA website through PayPal. Please note how many of each ticket (child and/or adult) you are purchasing. A paper form will also be coming home soon with your student if you prefer to pay cash or check. We will send out an email when all 100 tickets (for CR) are sold. Due to a certain amount of seating space at Reps, we cannot oversell tickets.
There will also be a silent auction with baskets to win. If you are interested in donating anything for the silent auction (gift cards, items of value, etc.) please contact Gena Lewis at 847-372-8124 or genalewis1971@gmail.com.
A great time to remember an amazing friend, give with your purchase, time for chatting, silent auction, eat and dance to the live band. We hope you will come join us where your ticket and time can benefit the family of our friend, Liz Belter.
Sincerely,
Patti VanWinkle
