News From Room 106
November 17th, 2023
Families,
I am very excited to officially begin this school year with the students! I have heard so many great things about this class. It has been great getting to know the students! I cannot wait to continue to get to know them and to work with them so that they can continue to have a successful third grade year.
Every two weeks, I will be sending home a newsletter. The newsletter will include important upcoming events, content we are learning in the classroom, and important information and events happening around the school.
This week, I have been working with Mrs. Hall on making sure the transition is easy and smooth for the students. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, you can reach me at:

Inside the Classroom:
Math
Students are working with both the distributive and associate property. Students have been working on breaking apart larger facts into smaller facts that are easier for us to solve. We have been learning these strategies to help with units of 6 and 7. Next week, we will move onto units of 8 and 9. We continue to work on skip counting to find the answer to multiplication problems as well (Example: 6x8, 7x8, 8x8, etc.).
Language Arts
We have been working with poetry. We will learn about poetic devices including alliterations, rhymes, and similes. For grammar, we will be studying possessive nouns. For spelling, we will focus on diagraphs.
All students have created a Marking Period 2 goal for AR. We are excited to push AR comprehension tests for this marking period going forth! Students will earn classroom prizes for reaching 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of their goals. Students also have a chance to earn schoolwide prizes!
Science/Social Studies
Students are working on comparing and contrasting the life cycles of both animals and plants. This week, we have been looking at the environments mosquitos live in and how to eliminate the problems they cause.
Black Folder
This week, students worked on reviewing multiplication, telling time, and rounding. Next week, we will continue reviewing multiplication and division strategies; along with telling time.
