Grandparents Day!
Grandparents Day is celebrated around the United States in the month of September. We would like to honor grandparents on Friday, September 13th by inviting them to TCE for a special Grandparents Day! The event will take place from 9:15-11:35 with each grade level hosting a specific time slot.
During this special visit the grandparents will get a chance to see your child’s classroom and do some memorable activities with your child. With assistance from our teachers, students may also connect with grandparents that are farther away via tools like Facetime/Skype, etc.
TCE will have FPD here to on this special day since we know that some of our grandparents will not have an HSE background check on file.
Below is the timeline for the day's activities:
9:15-9:50 Kindergarten
9:35-10:15 3rd Grade
10:00-10:40 1st Grade
10:30-11:10 2nd Grade
10:55-11:35 4th Grade
Grandparents might find an open slot of time as they wait for a grandchild in another grade level. The PTO will be hosting a waiting room in our TCE library for that open time period. Refreshments will be served and student work will be on display for them to enjoy.
As you can imagine with a school population as large as ours, Grandparents Day will likely be a very well attended and full event. Because of the large crowd we will not have visitors joining us for
lunch on this day.
This Grandparents Day is an extra special day as it is also the day of the HSE vs. FHS football game - the Mudsock! We will celebrating a PTO sponsored spirit day on this day. We encourage our Cardinals to wear BLUE for HSE High School or RED for FHS to show support for our high schools.
We look forward to this special event! Watch for information from your child's teacher!
Dine to Donate- September 10th!

Conner Prairie Study Trip
Our Conner Prairie study trip is right around the corner. We will be visiting the facility on September 19. At Conner Prairie we will learn more about what life was like in Fishers when William Conner lived here! We will also be discussing what brought the first settlers to Fishers to start a new community!
If you would like to chaperone this field trip, please let me know ASAP. Each class can only bring 6 chaperones so I will use a lottery system to select chaperones and I will send an email to everyone that gets chosen so they can send in $10.00 to cover the expense of the field trip for an adult.
If you haven't returned your child's permission slips and payment, please do that as soon as you can! I appreciate your help!
Our Classroom Wishlist
THANK YOU to those of you who have donated to our classroom! We appreciated the gifts of books, building toys, a handheld vacuum, slime-making materials and more! If you wish to help our classroom in the future with the #clearthelists, initiative, our link is below! :)
A Moment With Mrs. Chadwell (Our Global Studies Instructor)
2nd-4th We were able to look at and touch many different items from Japan that friends from all grade levels brought to share. These items included money (yen), clothing such as a Jinbei and Kimono, a toy from Japan (looked at the box and Japanese print), some Japanese figurines/dolls, an umbrella (decorated in Japanese paintings and writing), pictures and a walking stick used by the one and only Mrs. Heinzelman to climb Mount Fugi. For those of you who might not know she is our Building Technology Specialist and has traveled all over the world. We also looked at the flag and learned the meaning behind it. Finally, we learned that the Japanese basic version game Rock, Paper, Scissors is called “Janken Pon”. It is a very common game played by Japanese children to help them make decisions such as who goes first in a game or who might get the last piece of candy. Japanese adults have also been known to use this to help them make decisions and there have even been some big business decisions decided upon by using “Janken Pon”.
We are learning....
Writing- We focused on how we as writers can try the craft moves that we've been noticing from our mentor authors during our reading time.
Word Study- We remembered even more word expert words that readers/writers use when they study words. We reviewed the differences between digraphs and blends and applied this knowledge by studying our last names. We also reviewed words with silent "Ninja" e.
Project Work- We listed our wonderings about tennis, categorized our questions and even walked to the Avalon tennis courts to explore some more! We are excited to see what else we can discover!
Math Workshop- We reviewed the measuring rules we remembered from first grade. We know that when you measure length you measure from one endpoint to the next endpoint. We use tools that are all the same size and we don't leave spaces. We hope to take this knowledge and apply it at the tennis court to see if we can measure the height of the net, which is one of our original tennis wonderings.
