AMS Chorus News
Weekly update for the Chorus at Austin Middle School
Back To School Edition!
Good Afternoon!
I hope everyone has gotten their school year off to a great start! We are already working hard in chorus and making improvements and learning new things every day! Listed below is what we've been doing in each chorus class these first few weeks. As you can see are off to a quick start!
I have truly enjoyed reconnecting with the chorus students and meeting some of our new faces. I want to make chorus a place kids "want" to come to, not just "another class". Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
This year I will be including a "General School News" section to our newsletter so that you can stay in the know about other things going on at Austin. Be sure to check it out!
The newsletter is a bit lengthy this week, but full of A LOT of important information. Please take time to look it over so you don't miss anything! Have a GREAT week!
Musically Yours,
Mrs. Patrick

Honor Chorus Auditions
Auditions for GMEA District 7 Honor Chorus and Paulding County Honor Chorus are NEXT THURSDAY, AUG 29th after school.
Students will be given a permission slip on this Wednesday
(21st) which must be returned by the following Wednesday (28th)in order to stay for auditions. Honor chorus events require additional rehearsal time as well as a small monetary commitment. They are not to be taken lightly, as the events themselves are intense choral events that require appropriate behavior and attention during the rehearsals. Students who are selected will be representing AMS and the AMS Chorus.
The audition requirements are:
1) Sing one verse of either America, the Beautiful OR My Country Tis of Thee
2) Sing the major and minor scale
3) Sightread a short 4 measure example
Please contact Mrs. Patrick if you have any questions. Look for the paperwork to come home on WEDNESDAY!
Paulding's Next Star
Auditions opened August 1, 2018 for talented Paulding County residents/students of PCSD only! Students and adults, ages 11 and above are eligible to enter by submitting a 60-second video showcasing their talent through one of two competing categories, Scholastic (students only) or Emerging Professional.
Voting for the top video takes place the weeks leading up to the event. The video with the most likes/votes in each category will become one of the top twelve contestants, joining the judges top picks, and will advance to the final round, performing before a live audience on Sept. 14, 2019 @ PCHS.
We anticipate another sellout crowd, so be sure to spread the word by sharing with your friends and family early. For more information on this year’s competition, or to register, please visit pauldingeducationfoundation.com.

Your Choral Director, Mrs. Shelley Patrick
When not at school, I spend time with my husband Mike, and my two children, Daniel (a junior), and Molly (8th grade). I'm originally from Orlando, Florida and I spend several weeks a year visiting with family, visiting the theme parks, and going to the beach. I also spend my spare time reading, and spending time with my friends and family.
