Cold Weather Season

It's already November 30th?! How did that happen?

Now that the cold weather has settled in, please remember a few things:

• If the "feels like" temperature is at least 10 degrees, students go outside. We check the weather in the morning and again before lunch to make this decision.

• Some days, it can be too cold to be outside before 8:30, but then warm up enough to go outside for lunch recess. We will send students outside whenever possible, so please make sure your child(ren) bring everything they need to stay warm every day.

• Students at Lakeview must have both boots AND snowpants to leave the blacktop during recess. Sometimes our youngest students are disappointed that they cannot play on the equipment during recess because they forgot boots and/or snowpants. Please send everything everyday.

Please see this letter from our superintendent, Dr. Olson, regarding school closing in event of extreme weather.

• Please use extra caution when driving around the school at drop-off and pick-up. Leave extra stopping distance near stop signs and be sure to come to a full stop at each intersection. Even though the crosswalks may be slightly covered with snow, we all know where they are, so please keep them clear for our students.

Upcoming Events

Monday, December 3 - Smart Smiles assembly in the afternoon

Friday, December 7 - First trimester report cards sent home

Smart Smiles Program

Each year, Smart Smiles, a school-based oral health program sponsored by Columbia St. Mary's, comes to Lakeview to provide free selected dental services to students at no charge. Smart Smiles provides a dental screening, flouride, oral health education, sealants, and other preventative services right here at Lakeview during the month of December. You should have received the Smart Smiles information in your Tuesday folder this week. If interested, please fill out the form and return it. Students will have a brief assembly on Monday, December 3rd about the Smart Smiles program. If you still need the information packet, students may get another at the assembly or you can stop in the office.

Cousin's Night!

Monday, December 3rd is Lakeview night at Cousin's Subs. If you eat at Cousin's between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Monday, the Lakeview PTO gets 15% of the sales. Our PTO is helping us purchase new literacy materials, so your sub sandwich could be helping us buy a book for your child's classroom! The flyer is below. Thank you!

From Mrs. Cosgrove, our G/T coordinator

I hope everyone has had a wonderful fall! The year seems to be flying by, and as we approach December and January, I want to make you aware of some upcoming opportunities. The Geography Bee is an enrichment opportunity available to all students in grades 4 and 5. At Lakeview, we will hold two required practice sessions for interested 4th graders on December 11th and December 18th and for 5th graders on December 4th and 11th. The Geography Bee is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15th at 9:00 am in the Music Room. Spelling Bees are also coming up following Winter Break! This is especially true for 5th-8th graders who will have the chance to qualify for the District Spelling Bee, held on January 30th at 1:30. For more information on GT news and happenings, please contact Mrs. Cosgrove at jcosgrove@sdsm.k12.wi.us. Thank you!
