Sunset Valley Elementary 01.10. 2020

Good afternoon Jaguar Families,

It was so wonderful having our students back with us these four days! Upon returning from an extended break, it can be helpful to revisit building expectations. As a building, we took this week to focus on playground expectations. Each day, teachers and students reviewed the various aspects of the playground and the rules that help to keep us kind and safe. Please feel free to look through the slide presentation that was shared with your child. We always appreciate your partnership.

Have a wonderful weekend,

I hope you'll consider taking time to nominate a deserving colleague or perhaps one of your own children's teachers!

Each year our school district, in conjunction with the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce, recognizes twelve Excellence in Teaching Award recipients and selects a Teacher of the Year.

For more information about Excellence In Teaching, Teacher of the Year, lists of former recipients and information about frequently asked questions, please visit the Excellence In Teaching/Teacher of the Year website.

**Please note, the 12 Excellence In Teaching winners and 3 Teachers of Distinction will be recognized and the Teacher of the Year will be revealed at a April 8 Chamber of Commerce/R-7 School District reception/presentation at the historic Longview Mansion.

The nomination form is attached. You are welcome to fill it out and email it back to me, copy it, or access the form on the Teacher of the Year website. Nomination Form Here

You guessed it! It's a great day to be a Jaguar!!!! The kids are receiving their chromebooks this morning. The key with these new chromebooks is to take them home afterschool and charge the battery to 100% the first time. The R7 Technology Department has told me that by doing this, it will prevent start up issues for their computer. I told the kids that if they plugged their chromebook in about 4:30 today, it will be ready to roll by 6:00pm. We will be spending the next few days learning about the new chromebook, reviewing digital citizenship, etc. Below are three links that can help our younger students become familiar with their new devices.

Thanks to everyone for their patience through this process. This type of district technology rollout is usually in the summer, and it has gone very smoothly for occurring mid-year. Thanks to our board of education, technology department and SVE staff for their support.

Culver's Night on January 29th to Support Job Olympics: Culver’s Night is an exciting fundraising event. Students from all three Middle School Life Skills Programs will be running food to customers to help raise money for the high school students in the Medically Fragile Program at Sunset Valley who are participating in Job Olympics. Job Olympics is an event in which high school students compete against their peers from the other high schools in Lee’s Summit, Center School District, Hickman Mills, and the Rainbow Center in a variety of job skills. Please mark your calendars to visit Culver’s on Wednesday, January 29th between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. and Culver’s will donate 10% of all sales to the Lee’s Summit Life Skills’ Job Olympics. What a perfect opportunity to see our many middle school friends using their Functional Life Skills hard at work! We hope to see you there, whether you dine-in or drive-thru.

HealthE Kids Reminder- LAST CALL!

A green consent form went home with every SVE student in reference to our HealthE Kids health screenings that will occur in February. Students will receive complimentary vision, hearing, and dental screenings. Please return these consent forms as you are able, to allow us to adequately plan for the number of participants. Please contact your child's teacher if you need an additional copy of the form. *Cerner sponsors HealthE Kids and can provide resources and assistance for families and students.
