Long necks vs. Short necks

For A Giraffe To Be Fit In A Natural Selection:

People associate giraffes with their extremely long necks. For them it's a great thing to have so they can reach the top leaves on the trees. The leaves on the bottom are usually taken down from other animals or the wind. Giraffes being the only animal to being able to eat the leaves at the top keeps them from having enemies. The giraffes with the short necks will not be able to reach the top leaves and natural selection will eventually take them out.

Why Were They Selected?

Giraffes with short necks were selected because they cannot reach the fresh leaves on the top of the trees. This will make them starve. Giraffes are vegetarians and their preferred source of food is naturally leaves.

What is Natural Selection?

  1. Natural selection is the gradual process by which heritable biological traits become either more or less common in a population as a function of the effect of inherited traits on the differential reproductive success of organisms interacting with their environment. It is a key mechanism of evolution.

What determines who is "selected"?

An animal can do certain things different from others in order to survive. If the are born without this ability they will not survive.
