STAAR Testing Next Week
5th grade students will be taking the STAAR tests for math and reading next week. This is a statewide measurement of success for understanding concepts that have been taught throughout the year and skills that will be necessary for their subsequent years in school. We are excited to see them shine!
Tuesday, March 28th, is the math STAAR and Wednesday, March 29th, is the reading STAAR. If you have a 5th grader, please be sure your child is well-rested and has had a nice breakfast for each day of testing. We would encourage you to send a water bottle (with a secure lid) and healthy snacks (pretzels, cheese sticks, granola bars, apple slices) to sustain your child during testing as lunches will be on a later schedule. Please be sure snacks are not messy or would leave a residue on the testing materials (ie: Cheetos, takis, oranges).
Also, please be aware that cell phones will be powered off and collected during testing. This includes activity trackers and smart watches. It is fine if you choose for your child to leave their devices at home for these two days.
Harrison Intermediate will be a closed campus on these testing days for all students and we will not have visitors in the building. Please limit drop offs to the front office only. 6th graders will test on May 8th and 9th. More information is to come regarding their testing dates. Thank you for your support and we look forward to amazing results from all of our 5th graders!

Cell Phones
Students may bring cell phones to school; however, they are to be turned off during the instructional part of the day unless the teachers asks that they be used to support student learning and instruction. Students should not be placing calls, receiving texts or calls, texting during the school day unless asked to do so by an adult in the building. If your child is ill, he or she is to report to the clinic and the school nurse will call parents accordingly. Cell phones may be confiscated and returned at the end of the day if students are not following campus expectations.
