Doing the Best You Can...Today (March 7-14)
We arrived to a packed house and had about a 30 minute wait. I was perfectly fine with it due in large part to just wanting to slow down the day. I think sometimes we want things right away and slowing down can help us all.
After a bit of time we got seated. It couldn't have been more than 3 minutes and an older gentleman came up and got situated on the adjacent piano. At multiple points in the evening he and I spoke. He talked about church, he talked about how long he has played the piano, he shared his joy of life. It was very uplifting to listen to him play and to hear his story.
Reflecting back on that experience makes me think of the importance of finding the joy in life. Towards the end of dinner I shook his hand and he said he chooses to live one day at a time. I nodded my head and took it all in.
I bring this up because March is often the time of year that we can't help but look ahead to Spring, but also lose focus of our goals, resolutions, and what we need to focus on to be the best version of ourself.
Ask yourself, am I still committed to my new years goal? Am I still focused on my one word for 2020? Life has an interesting way of shifting our focus to the urgent rather than the truly important.
We can all take a page out of the gentleman from Cascarelli's book...focus on the day right in front of you.
Suggestions for Spring Wellness:
1) Find friends to walk the track with after school. Set a goal of walking a 5K this Spring.
(Our very own Western Running Club will be participating in the Tunnel to Towers on May 16th)
2) Focus on your sleep. Our clocks Spring Forward this week and that means an increase in daylight. Are you still getting the required sleep to be your best?
3) How's your diet? What foods make you feel best?
4) Feeling balanced? The trick between home and work is that you shouldn't expect 50/50. Everyone's tipping point is different. Strive for progress not perfection.
5) Do something for yourself. Get your nails done. Go to the salon. Get a massage. By yourself a new outfit.
6) Meditate. Do things to calm your mind.
7) Journal. Have you taken the time to write your thoughts, feelings and emotions? It's sure to create reflection and an inner calmness.
8) Be kind to yourself.
