Georgia Milestones Information

Parents and Guardians,

In May, all students in Fulton County Schools will participate in the Georgia Milestones Assessments – the comprehensive assessment program for grade three through high school. The assessments cover English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades three through eight. Science and Social Studies assessments will only be given in grades five and eight.

These exams are part of Georgia’s Milestones Assessment System, designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted content standards.

The tests include a wide variety of questions such as multiple choice and constructed responses that require students to explain how they solve problems, think critically, and write analytically. These skills take time and effort to master, but students will need them to succeed in the future.

In Fulton County Schools, we see these tests as an academic checkup. Like class assignments and report cards, they are one gauge of student progress – one way to provide you and your child’s teachers with information about your child’s work toward the high goals we have set for our students.

Spring Break Check Out Procedures

With Spring Break approaching, to ensure a more efficient way to check students out of school during the day, the following procedure MUST be followed.

In order to avoid interruptions of instructional time, students MUST have a note designating the time that they should meet parents in the front office for check-out.

Notes should be brought to the front office in the morning for authorization. The stamped note will allow the student to leave class at the designated time. Without a note, the student will not be called to the office until the parent is at the school to sign him/her out. (For example, students will not be called out of class if a parent calls from the car.) For this reason, there may be delays if the student does not present a signed note for approval in advance, notifying the front office of the early dismissal.

Your cooperation with school check in/out procedures will help to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum and will get you on your way in a timely manner.

As always, changes in transportation must be made before 3:00 p.m.
