Car Arrival Procedures

Dear Henking families,

Thank you for reviewing our car arrival procedures. I have received feedback that the “cutting” of the line that forms on Linneman from Huber has decreased since my last email. As a parent, I do understand that a long drop-off line may be frustrating and that you may be tempted to park in a neighbor's driveways to drop your child off at school, but please refrain from doing this as we have received complaints.

As a reminder: Adults are to stay in the car; staff will support students as necessary.

A big THANK YOU to our supervisors who continue to make sure that our students enter the buildings quickly and safely on a daily basis and to you for your support and patience!

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Clothing Donations Now Being Accepted

Keep us in mind when you are sorting through clothes as we keep extra clothes for our students, in the health office. We will accept any donations for pants (5T or bigger) with a stretchy waistband. We have enough clothing for girls, but not enough for our boys. Anything that is unisex is always better.

Lost and Found

Recognize anything... Please take a close look at the photos below to see if you recognize anything! Our Lost and Found is overflowing with jackets, hats, gloves, coats, sweatshirts, water bottles, etc. Please stop by Henking School if your child has lost any items and we would be happy to reunite you with them!

Staffing Shortages: How You Can Help

District 34 still is experiencing critical staffing shortages and the need for substitute teachers continues to be high. Becoming a short-term substitute teacher is one easy way to help our schools and students. A short-term substitute teacher only needs:

  • 60 university/college credits in any content area
  • To complete a required three-hour training ($25)
  • Get a Short-Term Sub license with ISBE ($25)

The North Cook Intermediate Service Center (our regional office of education) is hosting a session of the required training on March 4, 2022 from 12:00-3:30 p.m. Register here.

5 Essentials Survey

Have you taken the 5Essentials Parent Survey yet?

Your input on this statewide survey -- given to parents of all students throughout the state of Illinois -- allows us to help us improve our schools for our students. As a parent, taking the survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered for the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction

Prior research in more than 400 schools shows that schools strong on at least 3 of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.

Please click here to take the parent survey. We ask that you take the survey for each school in which you have a child. We will be pleasantly persistent in the coming weeks as we hope to reach 100% participation before the survey closes on March 11, 2022. We plan to use the results of this year's survey to give us a clear picture of our schools' climate and culture. If at least 20% of parents participate in the survey, a parent supplement report will be generated and we will share these results with the community.

Online Registration for Kindergarten Is OPEN!

If you have a child who will be 5 by September 1, 2022, we need you to register online as soon as possible! The District will make staffing decisions, and plan for half-day programming, based on enrollment numbers in March. Registrations help District 34 with hiring and planning details so we're ready to go for 2022-23!

Save $300 by registering before March 30, 2022. Payment for Full Day K is automatically spaced in installments and payment plans are available! The early registration rate for half-day kindergarten is $127.

Fee Waivers & Reduced Fees

Families who need financial assistance can apply for an income-based fee waiver. Those who apply must provide proof of income to be considered for free or reduced FDK fees. The reduced fee is $580. The criteria for receiving a fee waiver are the same as the National School Lunch Program.

You can find the waiver application online here.
