Annual Adopt a Family
Each holiday season the Northwest Community adopts several families within our school district and helps to make their holidays special. We would like to invite you to help us. If you would like to help, please consider removing ornaments from the trees, purchasing the items requested, and returning your unwrapped donation to any NW building by Wednesday, December 12. All donations will be given to families with children in the Northwest School District. Giving Trees will be going up in the school lobby during the weekend of November 9. In addition to our Giving Tree items, we are graciously accepting monetary donations as well.
Storyfest
We would like to thank Jenifer Strauss for visiting our school in October. The students enjoyed hearing tales and stories of Michigan.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Drop-Off
Pick-Up
If you will be picking your child up, please make sure to send a note to the teacher, or call the office. If calling the office, please do so before 3:00 p.m. This will allow us to get lists finalized and given to the teacher. If you call after this time, your request unfortunately will not be honored. We will not pull children off the bus for late calls. You will need to meet them at the bus stop. When picking up your child please park in a designated parking spot and not along the drop-off curb. Make sure to bring a photo ID. Parents are asked to wait in the cafeteria until students are dismissed. Students will be dismissed by grade starting at 3:32 p.m on full days, and 2:27 p.m. on Early Release days. When exiting the parking lot please do not turn around in the Lansing Avenue Baptist Church parking lot.
Parking Lot
Thank you for your continued patience with the volume of traffic during our drop-off and pick-up times! You are doing a fantastic job of parking in parking spaces, driving slowly in the parking lot and being timely in your efforts. Please remember when dropping off a student to only drop them off when you have reached the sidewalk.
Morning Tardiness
We encourage promptness since tardies affect everyone and disrupt classroom time. One of the most valuable life skills a student can learn from his/her parent/guardian is the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. Morning is the time when important school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day.
Main doors open at 8:15 a.m.
School starts at 8:25 a.m.
Students not in their classroom seat by 8:35 a.m. shall be considered tardy.
If the supervisory aides are not present when you drop off your student, they are tardy. Please make sure to come in the office and sign them in.
Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will be marked as a morning absence.
Doctor appointments/professional appointments are excused with a doctors note.
Students must be in school at least half of the day, to count as a full day.
Please help support your child in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life. If you need help or have concerns getting your child to school on time please contact the office. We are here to help.
Medicine Procedures
- Do not send any medication on the school bus. Medication could easily be taken by the wrong child when it is not monitored by an adult. It is the parent's responsibility to bring medication into the Northwest Elementary office and check it in with a secretary.
- Over-the-counter medications (cough drops, Tylenol, Tums) must have a doctors order.
- No staff member will be permitted to dispense non-prescribed, over-the-counter (OTC) medication to any student with out a medication form filled out by a prescribing physician.
