Totowa Torch
November - December 2016
Superintendent's Message
On behalf of the Totowa Board of Education, staff, faculty and administration, we would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
This has been a wonderful and exciting time in the Totowa School District. Our students are working diligently in their classes, as well as in the many activities we have had this year. Our teachers continue to demonstrate their unending dedication to our students to foster an environment which is conducive to their social, emotional and academic growth. Our PTO has afforded our children with many wonderful opportunities, and their dedicated members have continued to strengthen our schools. The encouragement from parents, faculty, administration, and the Totowa community has been extremely rewarding and demonstrates a true commitment to helping our children learn and feel successful.
I want to thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s life. I truly hope you will take the opportunity to spend with your loved ones and have a restful, happy and memorable holiday!
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences were held on November 29th, 30th, and December 1st. Appointments were scheduled allowing collaboration between parents and teachers to establish a rapport and foster a common goal focusing on students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
Winter Concerts
On December 8th and 9th, students in the second and first grades, respectively, performed a variety of songs for parents, friends, and community members in their annual winter concert. The program highlighted the months of hard work by all the students under the direction of Ms. Karca, Memorial School’s music teacher, and the first and second grade teachers. Ms. Juliano decorated the auditorium with magnificent artwork created by the students of Memorial School.
On December 12th, Washington Park School held its annual holiday performance. Under the direction of Mr. Carl and Mr. Latka, students in grades three through eight demonstrated their love for music. Performances by the Junior Chorus, Shooting Stars Band, Senior Band, Glee Club, and the A Capella group resonated throughout the gym. The seventh and eighth grade STARS students, under the direction of Ms. Castrianni, created Holiday decorations.
All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the concerts and were extremely proud of the outstanding performances by all our students!
A Visit from Santa
On December 21, 2016, Santa Claus came to Memorial School. He visited every classroom spreading holiday cheer to all students and faculty. Santa's visit was enjoyed by all!
