When consuming carbohydrates your body can regulate the levels of glucose in the liver and the skeletal muscles. Glucose is essential to the central nervous system. If the levels of glucose are high you can be diagnosed with diabetes. Carbohydrates gives the energy all athletes need to perform at their best.
