REMINDER- NO SCHOOL, Oct. 13-14 for Parent/Teacher Conferences

Halloween Parties/Parade-October 31

We have decided to shift our Halloween parties/parade to Monday, October 31. More details to come later.

Each fall and spring, there are days scheduled for parent conferences on the school calendar (Oct. 13 & 14). At Werner we have built in more flexibility. You can expect to conference with your child’s teacher at least once during the first semester (so more time can be devoted to each conference) and again in the spring by phone or in person.

Communication is never limited to one or two meetings. Anytime a concern arises, or if there is information to be shared, please call for an appointment with the teacher, school counselor, or principal. Please do not expect to conference on a drop-in basis with your teacher. Teachers’ days operate on a very tight schedule. They will be better able to help you if they have time to gather information and sit down for a meaningful block of time.

There Is No Wrong Way To PTA. How Do You PTA?

Donuts with Grown-ups needs your help!

A Werner family favorite event needs your help. The PTA needs an adult or a group of adults to host "Donuts with Grown-ups" this November. Without an adult host, this event will not happen.

The PTA provides almost everything you need for the event. We just need a host to pick the theme and help run the school wide event.

Please reach out to ptawernerelementary@gmail.com if you're interested in hosting this event.

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee-HELP NEEDED

Hello from the Werner Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee!

We need your voice! Especially those who are underrepresented in our Werner community. The Werner Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee was started last year and is looking forward to continuing to grow.

We want to get the perspectives of those who have different:

- racial or ethnic backgrounds

- nationalities

- non-traditional families

- mental health concerns

- physical, intellectual, or learning abilities

- financial or community resources

- religions and traditions

We would love for you to join the DE&I committee, attend our meetings, or just share your ideas and concerns via email. Let us know your thoughts on how to make Werner more inclusive to those who may be different.

Sign up here to join the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

Send any thoughts or ideas to Jocelyne Heinzen at joce.wheeler@gmail.com

Literacy Adoption-HELP NEEDED

Oct. 4, 2022

Dear PSD parents/guardians,

Poudre School District will be adopting elementary (K-5) literacy materials for district-wide implementation at the start of the 2023-24 school year, and we are seeking parent representatives to serve on the adoption materials review team. The team will meet during the school day and will start its work on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Tentative meeting schedule (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

  • Tuesday, Oct. 18
  • Wednesday, Oct. 26
  • Tuesday, Nov. 8
  • Tuesday, Nov. 15

If this schedule will work for you and you are interested in serving on this committee, please complete this short form. We have four seats on the team for parents/guardians of elementary students and plan to select members so that we have geographic representation across our school district.

If you are interested but unable to serve or are not selected, you can choose to be added to our mailing list for focused community engagement. Those on the list will receive frequent updates about the team’s work and will be invited to focused information sessions with our team. Please use this link if you want to serve on the review team or be added to our focused community engagement mailing list.

This adoption will provide our teachers with high-quality instructional materials that align with the Colorado Academic Standards and support the Common Core Key Shifts in Language Arts. Adopted materials will be on the Colorado Department of Education’s Advisory List of Instructional Programming, which identifies programming that supports systematic development of foundational reading skills for all PSD students. We look forward to sharing our progress.

Thank you for considering.

Director of Curriculum

Also, there are advantages to being on this program with discounts given throughout our community for student summer programs. Check out fcgov.com/reducedfee website for more information. The before and after school program, AlphaBest, also gives a 15% discount. Apply on-line at www.myschoolapps.com. Please note that August 1, 2022 is the first day you can apply on line for the 2022-2023 school year. Families do have to apply each school year unless they receive a letter stating otherwise.

Blue Moose Art Gallery

Past Werner parent, Julie Grillo, is an owner of the Blue Moose Art Gallery. The Moose offers 24 Adult Art classes every month, and now they are offering Kid’s Art classes this fall. The 4-week series includes 4 different mediums with 4 artist instructors and will be held in the gallery classroom.

The Blue Moose would love to share this art opportunity with your 4th to 8th grade students. High school students are always welcome to join in our adult classes. Thank you!
