Sunset Lake SMORE
March 27, 2020 Special Edition for Home Learning
Sunset Lake Begins with the End in Mind
We hope your family is well and is staying safe during these challenging times. As we continue our school shutdown our Sunset Lake teachers have been offering resources and ideas to help you manage the 'new normal" of your children learning while at home.
We want to make sure we stress the message that we do NOT have requirements for your child's school lessons or time spent on the provided activities. Our hope is to avoid a "slide" in your child's knowledge and skills, but we are not expecting students to learn new things.
We may be sharing new resources or different sites your child has not experienced before but the purpose is to try and give our families enough options to choose from that will work best for them. Our teachers are outstanding professionals that are working to make sure what they share best matches their students through their formats of Google Classroom, Dojo, Remind or maybe SeeSaw.
This document, weekly Sunset Lake SMORE,-- is an overall share out of information and resources we feel may help you during the state school break from March 16th-April 13th. Governor Whitmer's Stay Home order currently runs from now until April 13th.
Please note our district's spring break is still scheduled for April 2nd -10th. During those days, teachers will be on their spring break vacation and resources and e-learning will be suspended during that time. This newsletter is currently the last scheduled COVID 19 SMORE edition since we will not be sending one out during the spring break days.
We THANK YOU for all of the time and efforts you are putting into your child's education on top of all the other pressures you have in your life right now. We appreciate YOU!
Please do not hesitate to email me at amccaw@vicksburgschools.org if you have any concerns or questions!
Thank you,

Lexia at Sunset Lake
Great news! We now have Lexia licenses for ALL of our students.
This is a fun, computer-based program to help students practice and maintain their literacy skills. The activities in Lexia support your child's classroom curriculum and focus on maintaining reading skills in six areas: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Should you choose to have your child access this program, we recommend 15-20 minutes a day.
You do need a specific link for Sunset which is here:https://www.lexiacore5.com/?SiteID=1189-5690-2253-2225
Click this link for login information that gives you a screencast and directions.
More information was also provided on the Sunset Lake PTSO Facebook page, or on your child's Google Classroom page. To use an iPad, download the free Lexia Core5 Reading app from the App Store. Your child can then log in with their username and password.
Username = five-digit lunch number
Password = vcsstudent
If you have any questions or have trouble connecting to Lexia, please feel free to email Mrs. Chang at lchang@vicksburgschools.org.
Neighborhood Art Idea
This week I had a friend share out a great idea with me so I wanted to pass it along.... (you might have already started this in your own neighborhood).
Neighborhoods are sharing their children's artwork in their windows for others to enjoy while they are taking walks during this social distancing time period. There is so much value in celebrating your child's artwork and normally we love to post their beautiful pieces all around the school to share. We hope you are able to share your child's artwork in your windows OR maybe even post pictures of their work on our Sunset Lake Fb page.
