Updates
In the past two weeks students have been learning, community building, and rehearsing!
Students set goals for the second quarter and had their first anatomy lesson of the quarter this past week. They should be able to talk to you about a few bones in the body, the function of our bones, and why knowing them is important for dance.
Congratulations to the Dance Company on their performance at the Cleveland Dance Festival this past weekend at the LaSalle Theatre. Students participated in master classes in the morning and then performed for a full house.
We have a master class this Thursday with the Stephen Petronio Dance Company, an opportunity provided to us from DanceCleveland, that I am so excited for the students to take part in. DanceCleveland is also offering free tickets to the Petronio Company's performance at Playhouse Square on Saturday, November 12. Please contact me if you are interested in attending so I can get tickets to you.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
All students are required to follow dress code policies including securing hair off of the face and neck. If a ponytail/hair secured from the face extends beyond the neck to the shoulders, it needs to be in a bun.
Nails should be a reasonable length and shape; it is dangerous to dance with long nails. We are moving into more moments of partnering and weight share, which adds an added layer of importance to this reminder. Industry standard is short, or no length of nails, no polish on stage.
We Are One
We Are One is next week!
Contracts for performing have been passed out and were due last Thursday, 11/3. Many students are still missing their contract, which is a grade in the gradebook. Students are required to maintain a B in their arts major and a C in all academic classes to be eligible to perform.
All out of school rehearsals are required unless previous communication is made.
If your scholar is not performing, they are still expected to learn all movement for any dance their class is learning/performing for a physical assessment.
Performances are November 17 - 19 in school and outside of school hours. Rehearsals will be through the school day and during arts block. Additional rehearsals outside of the school hours are listed below.
A folder is in Schoology with each class that outlines times for all rehearsals and performances.
Each day that we go to John Hay for rehearsal/performances, dancers will meet Ms. Clark outside of Room 219 before we walk together. If a dancer is not performing, they are to follow their regular schedule and will have an assignment in Schoology equal to the points earned for students who are performing. ALL students will be assessed on their knowledge of the movement on Monday 11/21.
