Our Weekly Update
From Fourth Grade
Week of March 5th
It's hard to believe it's already March! How this year is flying by. I hope everyone had a wonderful week and enjoyed the 80's dance on Friday!
As you know, Georgia Milestones Assessments are just around the corner, and we have a lot of information to cover to prepare your child for this assessment. Please make sure your child is coming to school every day, as each day is critical for their learning and success. We thank you for your support each and every day!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beginning April 12, our students will participate in the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessment. This is a comprehensive summative assessment designed to measure how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
At Crabapple Crossing we believe year-long quality instruction is the best preparation for an assessment such as GA Milestones. Our students and teachers have been working hard all year and we know they will perform well on this assessment. There are a few things you can do at home to help your child prepare for the test administration.
- Study the testing schedule below carefully. Ensure your child is present and on time on the days their grade level will be testing.
- Help your child arrive well-rested and having had breakfast. Remember a delicious and healthy breakfast is available in the cafeteria each morning.
- Encourage your child to do their best work, but not stress!
- Inform Yourself. There are several opportunities to learn more about assessment in Fulton County, how your child’s teachers use assessment results and how assessment results are used at the state level to determine our school’s score. (Currently a 97.1)
Thursday, March 15 @ 6 pm-join us and parents from Birmingham Falls & Summit Hill elementary at Assessment in the Spotlight. Our Northwest Learning Community Assessment Program Specialist, LaKenji Hastings will be present to discuss assessment and help answer any lingering questions. The meeting is being held at Birmingham Falls Elementary.

The fourth grade team asks that if you have a concern or question about academics, your child, another student, etc., please contact your child's teacher first. If we cannot help solve the conflict, we will be sure to reach out to the correct administrator that can help. Thanks for your support.

SCIENCE: We are learning about Simple Machines and Forces & Motion. Keep an eye out in your child's Science Journal for the vocabulary and notes to study for this unit! We have sent home a FUN "at home" project to go along with this unit. We incorporate math and science, and it is a great way to wrap up the unit. This will be counted as a participation/completion grade.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
READING WORKSHOP & WRITING WORKSHOP
We are wrapping up our current reading and writing units, and we will be moving into test prep for both reading and writing. Students will review skills and strategies learned throughout the year, and they will review and practice test taking skills as well. The goal is to prepare students while making them feel confident (not stressed!) about the upcoming Milestones. Thank you for your continued support at home!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grammar Workshop
Lessons are taught weekly at school, and students will be responsible for completing the corresponding workbook pages for homework. Assignments will be due on Friday and will be checked directly from the workbook, so please keep all pages intact. Students should bring their grammar workbooks to and from school daily. Thank you to our amazing PTO for making this possible!

Students will get the opportunity to cash in for a coupon after two weeks. In order to cash in for a coupon, the students must have three or less marks, as well as the card being signed on each side.
