Selena Quintanilla
Early Life
Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas.
She's known as "Queen of Tejano" or "Mexican Madonna" but they really call her by her first name. Around the age of 10, Selena became the lead singer in her family's band, Selena Y Los Dinos. The band featured her brother Abraham and her sister Suzette. Her father, Abraham, a former musician, managed and produced the group. Selena grew up speaking English, but her father teach her to sing in Spanish . She learned the lyrics in Spanish and then she learned to speak Spanish fluently.
Famous Begins
Selena became very popular with Tejano music fans. In 1987 at The Tejano Music Awards, she won both "Best Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Performer of the Year." Her 1990 album, Ven Conmigo was the first Tejano record to be a gold record status which means she sold ALOT of copies. In 1992, Selena took a break from her music business. In 1993 she won Grammy Award (best Mexican-American album) "Live". In 1994, she and the band played alot of tour dates in New York, California, Puerto Rico and Argentina. Amor Prohibido was released that same year, and went gold.

Selena died on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after being shot by Yolanda Saldivar, the founder of the Selena fan club. People were really upset about it and lots of people attended her funeral. People now still doesn't forget her but she will still be in peoples life. After her death people made statues of her and they turned her recording studio to an museum to remember her. 1971–1995
