CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: Rethinking Kahoot for Grammar!

The common use for Kahoot is a quick review where students answer and teachers move on to the next question. However, I was able to watch students teach their peers after each answer was submitted! Mrs. Mumaw at Van Duyn uses this process to review her ELA lessons on Fridays!

1. She introduces the concept.
2. Students work through centers, in class activities and homework.
3. Kahoot Review towards the end of the week where
  • students work with a partner on one iPad
  • students have the chance to be the teacher in front of the class.

"I am seeing an increase in understanding simply because students WANT to explain with the Kahoot sessions. My assessment scores are going up!"

Junior Inventors - STEM/STEAM ideas

This website offers STEM ideas for teachers and parents. My favorite section provides many DIY projects for different levels. In October I came across the Upcycle Challenge which led to a great project about to be launched in the 8th grade in May! Explore! Invent! and Create! Check it out by clicking here!

"The importance is that they learned, and we have to recognize that there are opportunities now for learning that we couldn’t even imagine."
